"The last time we were here, your bastard came along. I was hoping he'd make another appearance today, perhaps to show his father a new sword form," Oberon chose to retort with a smile on his face.
Cithron tried to muffle his giggle hearing this, and so did some other lords who turned their heads away so that the king wouldn't see them giggling.
Jarius stared at Oberon for a moment.
Then Oberon added, "I don't seem to recall his name, Your Grace."
Oberon wasn't just trying to make subtle mockery of the King. He was intentionally trying to get words out of his mouth, words that may confirm his suspicions.
Jarius feigned a smile and replied back, "You have a good memory, Oberon, but my bastard is not why we are here."
Oberon leaned back, deciding to let it be for now.
Jarius then continued, "My grandfather, Augustus, had unified this continent under one sovereignty. Your own grandfathers or fathers swore oaths and signed treaties to these very sovereignty."
