Chapter 148 - Mewtwo and Mew

Chapter 148:

Having traveled to so many places, only to realize upon looking back that the food here was still the best.

Even if it was just a simple glass of wine.

Mewtwo thought to itself.

At the same table, Hayashi Kaede suddenly clapped his hands, a look of realization dawning on his face. "Right, Pidgeot and the others..."

Pidgeot had been sent out for the Sky Challenge and hadn't been called back yet.

Gardevoir closed its eyes, and after a moment, nodded. "Gardevoir~" (I've told them.)

"Great! That's why you're the best, Gardevoir." Hayashi Kaede's eyes lit up.

As Gardevoir's strength grew, the range of its telepathy had also increased.

But speaking of Pidgeotto and Pidgeot, Hayashi Kaede was a bit surprised. Why hadn't he seen that "Pidgeotto" that always arrived right at mealtime today?

Yet the next moment, speak of the devil, and he shall appear—a lone "Pidgeotto" suddenly descended from the sky.

It habitually landed in its usual spot, ready to dig in.

But before it could take a bite, it sensed something was off.

It looked around, finally settling its gaze on Mewtwo, eyes filled with slight suspicion.

What is this?

Then, "Pidgeotto's" eyes lit up.

Wasn't this the target it had been searching for all along?

Meanwhile, Mewtwo's gaze also turned serious.

According to the human organization that created it—Team Rocket—it was created from a Pokémon called "Mew."

Later, it had researched: Mew, the Pokémon, is said to possess the genetic composition of all Pokémon, meaning it could transform into any Pokemon and use all kinds of techniques.

Now, Mewtwo sensed a kindred spirit in this "Pidgeotto."

Clearly, this was no ordinary Pidgeotto.

But... Mew.

Yet judging by its actions... Mewtwo suddenly felt doubtful.

You... here for a free meal too?

What a coincidence, we have the same goal.

But it quickly regain his out of spiral thoughts.

During its travels, while "investigating" the relationship between humans and Pokémon, it had also been searching for Mew.

It was an almost instinctual pursuit.

But after searching for so long without success, Mewtwo finally found Mew here?

The two Pokémon exchanged a glance, then ultimately turned their attention to the delicious food before them.

No matter how many questions they had, none were more important than the feast in front of them.

So...

Time to eat.

Hayashi Kaede, who had been observing the two Pokémon's reactions, also breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this.

In his memory, In "Mewtwo Strikes Back", the first time Mewtwo saw Mew, it immediately attacked, and the two Pokémon seemed to fight.

Hayashi Kaede hadn't recalled this immediately; it was only upon seeing Mew arrive now that he remembered.

The two had an indescribable connection, but at least now, they don't seemed to have any conflict.

However, when Hayashi Kaede brought out the special edition—(catnip version) pan-fried pork chop for Mew, Mewtwo's composure broke.

It stared in disbelief as Hayashi Kaede placed that pork chop on "Pidgeotto's" plate, then involuntarily swallowed, growing visibly restless.

What kind of food was this?

Why did it smell so enticing?

The thought flashed through Mewtwo's mind.

But seeing that Hayashi Kaede showed no intention of offering it any, it felt too embarrassed to snatch it from "Pidgeotto" or directly ask Hayashi Kaede, "I want to eat that..."

Or perhaps more accurately, it wanted to smell that pork chop.

This restlessness grew more pronounced upon seeing "Pidgeotto" eating with evident relish.

Subtly, its psychic energy began to show signs of instability.

"Gardevoir..."

This fluctuation was immediately detected by Gardevoir and "Pidgeotto," who turned their gazes toward Mewtwo.

Followed by Hayashi Kaede noticing it naturally too.

After a glance at "Pidgeotto," Hayashi Kaede had an epiphany. "Forgot you're probably into this kind of thing too."

He then took out a bottle from his storage ball and sprinkled a small amount onto Mewtwo's plate.

Actually, the pork chops were prepared the same way; it's just that "Pidgeotto's" portion had a bit of catnip powder added.

This was powder Hayashi Kaede made by drying and grinding catnip leaves for easy use.

It might lack some freshness this way, but it was more convenient for use when needed.

In less than three seconds, upon seeing the powder added to its plate, Mewtwo's tastebud was wetted. It felt an urge to swallow the food, but the setting clearly wasn't appropriate, so it restrained itself.

Yet its hands trembled slightly.

Why?

What was this?

How could it make its spirit so exhilarated?

Glancing at Hayashi Kaede and seeing encouragement in his eyes, Mewtwo hesitated briefly before choosing to trust him. It sniffed the pork chop, carefully cut off a small piece, and ate it.

Then, two words escaped its lips involuntarily: "So good!"

Followed by a full-body shudder, as if it desperately wanted to stand up and dance on the spot.

But Mewtwo's formidable self-control kept this mental desire in check.

"....Glad you like it, ahahaha...."

Hayashi Kaede laughed beside it.

As he'd thought, although Mewtwo usually stood upright, it was ultimately a feline Pokémon.

And any feline Pokémon would be affected by catnip.

But this scene was fully witnessed by the "Pidgeotto" below, eating its pork chop.

"Pidgeotto" froze.

This "human" before it clearly shared its genes, so their preferences were indeed somewhat similar.

But the key point was...

It had watched Hayashi Kaede voluntarily take out its favorite green powder and sprinkle it on the food in front of this "human."

"Pidgeotto's" memories began to unfold.

It realized that every time, Hayashi Kaede seemed to automatically add a bit of this powder to its food.

Which meant...

Hayashi Kaede had long discovered this "human's" and its true identities!

And it had been putting on an act, playing along for so long?!

Oh no!

Upon understanding the truth, "Pidgeotto's" mind went blank.

It had always thought its disguise was pretty good, never expecting Hayashi Kaede to have seen through it long ago and been acting along.

Thinking this, Mew's heart was instantly filled with embarrassment and awkwardness.

"Pidgeo..."

Realizing this, "Pidgeotto" looked at the food before it and suddenly found it less appealing.

So, what should it do now?

Reveal its identity honestly, or continue "playing dumb"?

Thus, the meal passed with Mew tangled in all sorts of bewildering thoughts....
