Chapter 97 - CHAPTER 97 (S4)

"How long are they gonna be out for? They're really takin' their sweet time." Eli grumbled an annoyed complaint, slumping in his seat.

"Be patient. They'll call us if anything goes wrong, right?" Nicole replied, sitting on a chair next to Christian, their shoulders grazing a slight bit. Eli just gave Nicole one last look and averted his gaze entirely.

The group had been sitting in the room, Axelle still obsessed with not missing a word on the file, Rexine sat next to Eli, already given up, eating a chocolate bar which she didn't know the expiry date of. Maverick, Waylen and Dave doing god knows what. They were bored, that was for sure. They had been told by Christian, Perry AND Nicole to keep their hands off of the chemicals and solutions they needed for the process of experimenting.

"Well, can't say that was an easy job," Damian huffed, as the organization had reached the second floor, their bags filled to the brim with chemicals and whatnot, really. But it went real quiet after they heard.. screeches? From right outside. So obviously on instinct they moved to the nearest window, peekimg out. Nothing in sight. The phone was too small to spot from all the way over there, so they just heard the loud shrieking from the middle of the roads. They made their way down, cautiously exiting the lab, walking towards the car they parked rather close by. Nathan was driving this time, since Emily had practically begged not to let Damian drive again. It wasn't silent as everyone got settled in their seats once again. The screeching was unsettling, and the thought that zombies MIGHT just come flooding didn't cross their minds since.. they saw zero, at the moment. It wasn't until Nathan reversed trying to get off the pavement he glamced over at the rear view mirror to see a horde of zombies— coming straight for them. Well, really wherever the sounds were coming from. But even they didn't know.

Millie was the second to notice, looking behind after seeing Nathan's whole face fall.

"..So why don't we get the hell out instead of staring?" she commented rather aggressively, half anxious, half scoldingly. Nathan didn't disagree, of course not. He instead reversed out, the car making almost zero sound compared to the horrific screaming behind them, as they left. But of course they didn't think for a moment that zombies would probably be coming from ALL sides, not just one. In a panic, Nathan could only reverse away from the horde he saw coming from ahead. But so did from behind. What the hell.

"..Well damn." Alice sighed. "..If you speed, you can make it to that right turn over there, Nathan." She added, pointing fingers at a right turn like that wasn't the only one visible to them.

Nathan exhaled sharply, taking a few deep breaths before he started driving again. Maybe he'd listen to her. Just this once.

And there he went, speeding against his comfort zone, going a bit too fast. And fortunately, he made it. The bad news being there were obviously still zombies coming that way. But from that road it was less. Nathan could try to swerve side to side to avoid them, but the crowd was a bit too big for that. Not to mention, the screeching had never stopped, going and going and going.. like it was on a loop— which, it probably was now that they thought about it.

"The hell are you doing?!" Emily panicked, grabbing the back of Nathan's seat.

"What the hell do you want me to do?!" Nathan snapped back, trying his best to get out of the horde of zombies he was currently driving into. He was overwhelmed, unsure of what to do.

"I don't know, uh, TRY to get out of the crowd?!" She snapped back, just as panicked as everyone else in the vehicle.

"Can't you see I'm trying!?!" This was probably one of the only and rare times anyone would see Nathan this distressed about something other than a stupid video game. It fell rather silent among the six, as all of them were too busy panicking either internally or externally. Mainly internally. But the same couldn't be said for Damian.

"WATCH OUT!! YOU'RE GONNA HIT THE LAMPPOST YOU IDIOT!" He yelled, unable to stop himself from voicing his concerns. Nathan groaned in annoyance. He really was trying his best. But the crowd of zombies wouldn't let up, especially after the car's engine was right next to them. They could hear it a lot better than just well, so obviously now some of them were dragged behind the car. It was also making it increasingly difficult to drive forward faster.

On the other hand, Emily tried to message the rest of the group and inform them of the situation that they were in. But to their demise, she couldn't get a signal. Just amazing. "Why is there no signal?! Are we serious??" She complained rather loudly, turning her phone off, in a failed attempt to send messages to Axelle. Not to mention, in their initial panic, they hadn't realized that whoever had set up the noises, it was clearly to sabotage their plan. And still, had not realized since they indeed were still panicking.

Nathan finally managed to swerve off into another lane, taking a pretty risky left turn. Though, at last, they managed to get out of it. Nathan slowed down a little bit, exhaling a sigh of relief. Nathan was a bit lost now, since he wasn't really paying attention to where he had been going, trying to avoid all the zombies.

"Maybe you'll get signal now?" Millie said, turning to Emily. She simply glanced at Millie sidelong, before checking her phone. A small smile tugged at her lips, seeing a strong signal at the top of her screen.

So eventually, she messaged the group— well, Axelle. But also telling the group that they were driving towards the other lab now.
