Chapter 1 - Prologue

The wind howled through the ancient trees, carrying with it the whispers of a forgotten age. Beneath the gnarled branches of the Eldergrove, a young girl knelt in the damp earth, her fingers tracing the intricate patterns of the runes etched into the bark. The air crackled with an energy that sent shivers down her spine, a sensation both exhilarating and terrifying.

‎Elara had always felt different, as if the very elements conspired to reveal secrets only she could hear. The villagers spoke of magic in hushed tones, warning of its dangers, yet she was drawn to it like a moth to a flame. Today, however, the air was thick with an ominous tension, as if the world itself held its breath.

‎"Do you feel it?" she whispered, glancing over her shoulder at her loyal companion, a scruffy dog named Bramble. He tilted his head, ears perked, sensing her unease.

‎Suddenly, a distant rumble echoed through the grove, shaking the ground beneath her. Elara's heart raced as she stood, brushing the dirt from her knees. The villagers had spoken of dark omens, of shadows creeping closer to their peaceful lives. She had dismissed their fears, but now, doubt gnawed at her.

‎As she turned to leave, a flash of light erupted from the heart of the grove, illuminating the shadows that danced around her. Elara froze, her breath caught in her throat. The light pulsed, beckoning her closer, and against her better judgment, she stepped forward.

‎The moment her fingers brushed the glowing runes, a surge of power coursed through her, igniting a fire within her soul. Visions flooded her mind—images of kingdoms in flames, of a dark figure cloaked in shadows, and of a girl standing at the center, her hands raised in defiance.

‎"Who are you?" Elara gasped, her voice trembling as the light enveloped her.

‎"I am the keeper of the elements," a voice echoed, deep and resonant. "You are destined to wield their power, but with it comes great responsibility. The balance of the kingdoms rests upon your shoulders."

‎Before she could respond, the light exploded outward, and Elara was thrown back, landing hard on the forest floor. The world around her spun, and as she struggled to regain her bearings, she realized the grove was no longer the same. The trees loomed taller, their branches twisting into grotesque shapes, and the air was thick with an unsettling silence.

‎"Bramble!" she called, panic rising in her chest. The dog had vanished, leaving her alone in this strange, transformed world.

‎A shadow flickered at the edge of her vision, and Elara's heart raced. She scrambled to her feet, her instincts screaming at her to run. But as she turned, she found herself face to face with a figure cloaked in darkness, eyes glowing like embers in the night.

‎"Your journey begins now, Elara," the figure said, voice smooth as silk yet laced with malice. "Embrace your destiny, or watch as everything you love is consumed by the flames of war."

‎With those words, the figure vanished, leaving Elara standing in the eerie silence of the Eldergrove, the weight of her newfound power pressing down on her. She had no idea what lay ahead, but one thing was certain: the embers of destiny had been ignited, and there was no turning back.
