Darrell's POV
Finally, the carriage arrived at my pack, heading straight for the palace.
The ride had been nothing but uncomfortable.
I was eagerly looking forward to seeing Larissa in the palace but my biggest fear was that she might have run away…
I was here to understand why she had refused me in the first place.
It is clear that our connection is beyond sexual, but why is she choosing to stay away from me?
Any woman in the pack would kill to be in her shoes but she chooses to run away from it…
Maybe that is why I'm fascinated by her.
No woman has ever denied me…
The thought of her giving me a hard time got me excited. I wanted to see what it would mean to actually get a woman to love me.
To want me more than her life..
"Alpha, is everything all right?" Peter asked, surely out of curiosity..
"There's nothing to worry about. I am looking forward to getting out of this carriage"
Peter nodded in understanding but it was clear from his gaze that my reply wasn't good enough…
"We should arrive at the palace shortly, Alpha. There is no need to be so anxious", Peter offered.
I replied with a nod of my head.
There was no way I could bring myself to admit that a woman got me this excited!
How sure am I that she was in the palace anyway?
For all I know, she could have made a run for it before dawn and the men are still back at the Bloodhound pack, looking for her..
I decided not to think about it and hope that she is in the mansion as we arrive..
Finally, the carriage pulled to a stop in front of the mansion and I noticed one of the guards that I had assigned to Larrissa..
I approached him immediately, not wasting any time..
"Is she here?" I asked.
"Yes Alpha. She is in her chambers right now."
Feeling triumphant, I made my way into the mansion, heading straight for my chambers.
Despite the urge to go straight to her room…
Just to be sure that she was really there, I decided not to give in to my curiosity…
"Alpha, is there something I should know about?"Peter asked.
"There is nothing to be afraid of, Peter. If there is something that you should know, I would let you know and if I don't tell you, find out yourself", I replied.
My beta and I have a very complicated relationship.
Sometimes, I want to tell him things and other times, I just want to keep him hanging..
"Alpha, I just want you to know that I asked these questions for your safety. If there is a move that you are about to make, it is best that I am aware of it. There are too many things at stake right now to make any decisions that are risky…"
I turned to him, solely because I could not believe the words coming out of his mouth…
My hands wrapped around his neck, lifting him off the ground and choking him..
"Sometimes your guts irritate me, Peter. Just so you know.."
He stared back at me as though daring me to do something…
My eyes narrowed down at him…
He knew I loved a challenge and I would gladly rip his neck off his body!
"Is there something you want to say to me, Peter?" I asked.
"No Alpha. I will be more careful with my questions. My apologies for challenging your decisions..'
I tossed him to the side and he crashed into a nearby wall…
"The next time you question me that way, it is not going to be this easy" "I don't have time for stupid questions. Stop trying to get on my nerves"
I headed straight for my room without any further discussion.
All I need right now is to settle in from the long journey and maybe visit Larrissa by evening.
"Is there something I should know about? Any news from the council?"
I heard Peter staggering right behind me, unable to walk on his feet…
"The council has sent another letter, Alpha. It's regarding the case of finding a bride to give you an heir"
"And I want to believe that the council member who volunteered his daughter has decided to withdraw his offer?"
"Alpha, am afraid that she has been sent down to the mansion…'
I took a stop, throwing my head back in annoyance and irritation…
"I gave you simple instructions. Do you seriously wish death upon yourself?"
Peter went on his knees, pleading for his life…
"My apologies, Alpha. I just learnt of this a long time ago. I sent your letter as you had instructed me but it appears the council member is not taking your word seriously ...."
I let out a sigh, it looked like my visit to Larissa was going to be quicker than I intended….
'Come with me", I instructed…
I made my way towards the women's chamber and straight for the one i had told the maid to prepare for Larissa…
I placed a knock on the door and moments later, a young-looking maiden opened the door..
Her eyes ran cold with fear and she bowed her head in a hurry.
"My lord, I wasn't expecting to see you until evening…"
I looked past her into the room.
Larrissa is sitting behind the dressing-table, running a comb through her hair…
"I want the beta to meet the Luna to be"
Larrissa's eyes met mine and she slowly made her way towards me..
She looks as elegant as ever in that dress….
Every one of her movements made me want to run my hands all over her body..
"Alpha.."she greeted with a bow of her head.
"Peter, this is the Luna to be and I want you to go back to the council member and let him know my intentions. Am I clear?"
Peter's reply was rather very slow, he seemed to have been dumbfounded. ..
"Do I need to repeat my instructions, Peter?"
Peter bowed his head immediately in apology.
"Not at all Alpha. I am sorry for not responding. Yes, I will send your reply to the council member and have Lady Evelyn escorted back home. ."
Peter said and took his leave…
