Lyana's POV
They say the last true Lycan died a hundred years ago.
But they were all wrong.
Because I live with one my alpha Kelan.
And one night… I'll be the death of him and he won't see it coming.
Years ago it all started with blood and betrayal.
Alpha Kalen led the wolves into a war they couldn't win not because he believed they'd survive, but because there was no other way to go about it but to fight.
The vampires had broken the ancient accord. Slaughtered pups in their sleep. And when Kalen retaliated, they unleashed something worse than death:
Silver-laced venom.
Designed to poison shifters.
Engineered to kill Lycans.
They waited until he was deep in the fight, claws soaked in vampire blood, and then struck with blades soaked in the black venom of the Nightshade clan.
He tore through them anyway. He killed until his body collapsed. And still, he tried to rise.
But even gods fall sometimes and on this fateful day he did.
His men dragged him from the battlefield broken, bleeding, and burning from the inside out. The poison was crawling through him, choking the bond with his wolf, killing the beast that made him king.
By the time they reached the riverbank, his skin was ice. His breath shallow and his deep blue eyes flickering like dying stars.
Even Lycans can die too.
But not on her watch .
Her majesty rose from the water like vengeance dressed in silk. The Sirene Queen, ancient and wild, with power that tasted like storms and sorrow. She looked down at his fading body and said:
> "He will not die today. But he will owe me everything."
The Elders begged. They fell to their knees, desperate.
"What is your price?"
She smiled it was not a happy smile though ,and then the river answered lifting a sea cradle woven of coral and tide, inside it a baby with midnight black hair and skin that shimmered faintly under moonlight.
"She is my daughter. Born of salt and prophecy. If she stays beneath the waves, she will die before her power awakens. But on land… among wolves… she will live she will change everything."
"Why our Alpha?" they asked. "Why not raise her yourself? I mean it's unheard of a siren raised by wolves"
"Because I saved him," my mother the Queen said, stepping closer, "and I see how fate binds her to him."
Kalen stirred. Barely. His lips were cracked. Blood spilled from the corner of his mouth.
"Ta..take her" he whispered almost out of breath.
"She is yours to raise," the Queen said. "But when she comes of age, you will no longer own her. Her blood will choose, her soul will awaken. And you will either follow your fate or be destroyed by it."
"If I say no?" he asked.
She leaned down, cold lips brushing his ear.
> "Then you die and let your kind fall with you."
He said nothing for a long moment. Then he closed his eyes and nodded.
And the Queen pressed her palm to his chest. The healing magic surged through him like fire and thunder. Bones cracked. Poison burned away. His wolf screamed inside him as the Lycan reawakened stronger, deadlier, reborn.
When it was over, he gasped for air like he'd just escaped the grave.
The Queen placed the child in his arms.
"She is the ocean's secret," she said. "She is yours. Until she becomes what I know she will."
She vanished beneath the water and I, the child they bartered for a life, lay in the arms of a man who would one day become the one person I could never touch.
I was raised by the last Lycan but I am not his blood.
I am his curse, craving and his future undoing.
The Sirene fated to become his second Luna but what if I want to be his only Luna!
And when the sea calls me home…
he will have to choose.
Me.
Or his legacy ,pack, family and everything else.
