I chuckled at that "Of course it does. My appetite comes from my body needing the energy to grow and support itself. The older I get and the stronger I get the more i'll need to fuel myself." I explained honestly.
"What kind of ridiculous body do you have!?" Terry asked in horror.
I shrugged "It is what it is." I said dismissively.
"Right well are you planning to hole up in the library again today?" Mike asked changing the subject.
"Nah, was going to practice some spells I couldn't all that much over the summer." I said honestly.
"Which ones?" Terry asked interested.
"The cutting charm, disarming charm and fire summoning charm." I said calmly.
"Diffindo, Expelliarmus and I don't know the last one." Mike said intrigued.
"Ignio, summons fire based on the users intent. Naturally not exactly something I could practice in a room." I explained.
"Think you could teach us?" Terry asked hopeful.
"Sure, I don't mind." I agreed easily.
We left the great hall together after that and headed for the castles courtyard. We weren't the only ones either as it was quite the popular place on a weekend day like today.-
The place was a grassy area surrounded by arched pathways made of wood and metal. At the far end was a path out onto the castle grounds that was grassy but with the occasional flower or weed. I led us out this path and pointed at the short tree sitting at the edge of the lake in the distance. -
"We'll practice over there since there's no real chance of accidents that way." I said and they nodded.
Reaching the spot in question took a few minutes due to how massive the grounds actually were. The lake was smooth here at the shore since today wasn't a very windy day and looked like dark tinted glass. We were safe from the water anyways as the tree as a small distance up the incline leading into the lake.-
"Alright so I'll go first and then you two try and copy me so I can see what you might need help with." I said as I drew my wand and pointed it at the tree "Diffindo." I spoke while flicking my wrist to slash the wand tip through the air.
A thin solid red spell shot through the air and struck the trunk of the tree where a small cut opened on it.
"Not very strong is it?" Terry asked with a disappointed expression.
"I could probably cut the tree down if I really wanted to but this is practice for control, not power." I said as I walked over to the tree and tapped it with my wand "Episkey." I said as a bright vibrant glow came from my wand and the cut closed in real time.
"Me next!" Terry said eagerly as I walked away from the tree.
He swung his wand sharply as he called out the incantation and a the tip of his wand fizzled red but no spell came out leaving him standing there awkwardly.
"You wand movement was fine but you need to put more emphasis on the "fin" part of the spell. Your mental image is also not strong enough. Mike you try now." I said and Mike drew his wand and made his own attempt.
This time a weak red spell shot out but completely missed the tree and fizzled out before it hit the ground.
"In your case the intent is barely good enough and the pronunciation was spot on but your wand movement was too large. Make it shorter, like you were trying to flick a grain of sand off a paper." I said helpfully.
Terry tried again next and this time he got a weak dull red spell to come out and even hit the tree but it only nicked the bark slightly.
"Your intent is too weak. What are you imagining when you cast the spell?" I asked seriously.
"Scissors?" he said embarrassed.
"That would be fine if you were trying to cut paper or cloth but for a tree like this Imagine a sword instead. Try again." I said encouragingly.
"Diffindo." He said with a focused expression as he flicked his wand and this time the spell was solid and cut a shallow but very clear line into the trees trunk. "I did it!" he exclaimed with an excited smile.
"Nice one mate!" Mike said patting Terry on the back with a grin.
"Well done but remember a spell isn't mastered until you can use it every time without fail. This is but a taste." I said with a smile of my own.
Mike went next and with a more controlled slash of his wands tip a solid strong red spell shot out and cut a deep gash across the trees surface even cutting into the wood below the bark slightly.
"Not bad. You must have changed the intent you had from before." I said with an approving nod as I walked up to the tree and used the mending charm again to fix the damage.
"Yeah, I used a sword like you told him." He said pointing at Terry.
"You must be familiar with swords then. You won't get such a strong reaction from it otherwise." I said interested.
"My father is a history professor and has a few laying about the house." he said with a grin.
"Cool! Wait what do you think about when you use the spell though?" Terry asked realizing I hadn't said that I use a sword as my image.
"Depends on how strong I want the spell to be. In this case a kitchen knife." I say honestly.
