"Well," Robin said finally. "That was the creepiest thing I've ever heard, and I once heard Frederick sing."
"Not now," Frederick whispered.
"Why did you let her talk?" Henry turned all the way around now, amusement gone. "Boss. You could've cut it off at the first word."
"I could have."
"So why—"
"Because she needed a radio." Cassel was staring at the handset. "If she could reach us directly, she would have. She spoke through Cecil, then through a radio, and even that cost her. Her voice thinned near the end."
Henry went still. "She can't cross the distance on her own."
"Not yet."
"But she knows our road."
"Yes." Cassel set the handset down. "And she wants us to know she knows."
"Boss," Sebastian said from the front. His voice had changed. "Something's wrong with the road."
Cassel was already moving. "Slow down."
The transport eased to a crawl.
