Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Misplacement

I grabbed my head. I was exhausted. Working continuously for more than sixteen hours wasn't my cup of tea, but still, I pushed ahead. All these mathematical solving, theoretical problems to develop this Time Travel... sigh, I hate this. But, the scientific passion in me won't back down.

Ever since I was a kid, I have loved science and astronomy. These myths of time-travelling have always amazed me. Right now, I am solving these mathematical equations. The engineering work is going on along with my theoretical expressions. After a lot of work, I couldn't get the solution.

"Add one more," I said to the man working with me. He nodded. I got up from my chair and walked to the machine. The machine we hoped would conduct the time-travelling. "Alright," I say, "Go back to your homes. We're done for today." It was dark outside.

My Co-workers left, grabbing their suitcases and probably planning to have dinner together in a corner restaurant in this city: the city with no records of any useful discoveries. I still ponder why they chose this place as our site of working on such a huge project.

And I am glad Mrs Xixi didn't come to work today. She keeps snarling at me. Like a pig. Yes, I hate her. So much. She is probably 42 this year, with millions of wrinkles on her face, yet she still has no hesitation in shouting at her juniors. I will give her one equation and she'll die, I bet.

The large machine was placed in front of me. Many engineers have worked on this. Many years we have taken. My heart wants to do this, but it mentally exhausts me. I wish the environment of this workplace would be good. So that I can work more properly instead of hitting my head every day.

I kept staring at the machine until my gaze stopped at one misplacement. I stepped closer. Wait, this was not supposed to be there. A Rotatory Thermal Displacement Actuator? Why did he add this? I lifted my hand and pulled it out; thankfully, it wasn't connected strongly.

I dropped the actuator on the floor; it was completely useless and had no connection to the context of time-travelling. Wait...

Oh gosh.

An idea just popped into my mind. This actuator was the thing that kept invading my research. I quickly grabbed my pen and notebook and continued the equation I left in between. Dimensions...time...and here we go.

I got the answer.

I quickly walked to the switch puller, my footsteps echoing through the place. I pulled it with a greater force, and my eyes witnessed something it wasn't supposed to. It was activated. And it was like a portal. A blue and purplish membrane, looking delicate in texture, formed in the circular space around the machine. The elements of the third dimension, including the atoms that were in the space, moved with a rapid speed inside the membrane. A minute later, before I could think anything or call someone that time travel WORKED, I crashed inside the machine after getting pulled into it with a greater force.

And God knows it was the worst incident of my life.
