Chapter 5: The Manticore Hunt and Beyond

The manticore's lair loomed in the Essosi hills, a jagged cave carved into the rock, its entrance dark and reeking of musk and decay. The air was thick, oppressive, the sun barely penetrating the shadows. Adam and Tomas crept forward, their silver swords gleaming, their boots silent on the stone. The Monsters Book glowed in Adam's HUD: Manticore: Weak to silver, fire. Tail venom lethal. He opened his alchemy table, the mental grid humming, and smeared Hanged Man's Venom oil on his blade, its acrid scent stinging his nose, the oil glistening darkly. "Tomas, hit it with Igni. I'll bomb it," Adam said, his voice low, his eyes scanning the darkness. Tomas nodded, his grip steady, his Witcher armor creaking faintly. The manticore lunged from the shadows, its claws raking stone, its venomous tail whipping like a lash. Adam threw a Grapeshot Bomb, its explosion shattering the beast's armor with a thunderous crack, shrapnel pinging off the walls. Tomas' Igni scorched its flank, flames dancing, the beast's roar shaking the cave. Adam's sword flashed, silver biting deep into its hide, blood spraying as it collapsed. [SYSTEM: 10K GOLD.] "Nice claws," Adam said, looting the venomous tail, its weight heavy in his hand. "But my Igni's the star."

Back at camp, the portal shimmered under the midday sun, its blue light casting eerie patterns on the sand. Lyra emerged, her Witcher armor gleaming, her eyes sharp with confidence, a steel sword at her hip. [SYSTEM: WITCHER CREATION SUCCESS: LYRA, AARD, QUEN, LOYAL.] Adam grinned, clapping her shoulder, the leather warm under his hand. "Welcome back, kid. Guard Dany, but don't steal my spotlight." Lyra smirked, tossing a Gwent card—Yennefer—its edges glowing in his HUD. "Beat me for it, boss," she said, her voice teasing, her eyes glinting with Adam's own sarcasm. Their match was fierce, played on a crate by the fire, the camp's noise fading as Adam's Ciri trumped her Nilfgaard. [SYSTEM: +1 RARE CARD: YENNEFER.] "Nice deck," Adam laughed, pocketing the card, "but mine's hotter."

Daenerys welcomed Lyra, her violet eyes warm as she studied the girl, her dragons chirping softly. "Your Witchers are… impressive," she said, her voice carrying a note of trust. Adam winked, leaning against a tent. "Wait till you see my dragon plan." He pranked Jorah, casting Axii as the knight sharpened his blade, his movements precise. Jorah froze, then danced a jig, his boots kicking up dust, his arms flailing awkwardly. The camp roared, Dothraki doubling over, Daenerys stifling a laugh behind her hand. Jorah's face flushed crimson as the spell faded, his eyes blazing. "You'll pay," he muttered, his voice low. Adam shrugged, grinning. "Send me the bill, Ser Frowns." [SYSTEM: QUEST: TRAIN FIRST FACELESS WITCHER.] He scanned the camp, spotting Kael, a quiet boy with sharp eyes, his frame lean but steady. The system assessed: [SYSTEM: CANDIDATE ASSESSED. 85% SUCCESS CHANCE.] "Braavos, kid," Adam said, opening the portal, its light swallowing Kael. "Learn to sneak, and bring me cards."

Lyra's POV: Guarding Daenerys was an honor, the dragon queen's presence commanding yet kind, her dragons chirping as Lyra stood watch, her sword at her side. Adam's pranks kept the camp alive, his sarcasm a spark in the desert's monotony. A Dothraki tested her, his blade flashing, but her Quen flared, deflecting it with a golden glow, the impact ringing in her ears. She smirked, mimicking Adam's drawl. Boss taught me more than signs. Daenerys smiled, a quiet bond forming, her trust in Lyra a steady warmth. Lyra felt home, her loyalty to Adam and Daenerys unshakable.

Adam lounged with wine, his Gwent deck warm in his pocket, the camp buzzing around him. Two Witchers, one dragon plan, and a Faceless trainee, he thought, his mind buzzing with possibility. Retirement's close. The fire crackled, Daenerys' voice a soft murmur as she spoke with Lyra, her trust in Adam's Witchers growing. Kael was en route to Braavos, and the stars shone bright above. Adam sipped his wine, his grin lazy but content. Life's damn good, he thought, the desert stretching endless before him, his empire rising one Witcher at a time.
