Chapter 285 - Chapter 288: Return

"What is Luke doing?"

Jessica felt an ominous premonition stirring within her.

The person she was closest to in this world was her lover—Luke, who always looked a bit dazed, like a big, lovable idiot. Yet, Luke had given Jessica the warmest comfort she had known since her nightmares began.

And right now, Jessica felt as though she was about to lose him.

Before her eyes, the Ancient One and Odin were battling the demonized Daleks. In the short term, nothing seemed amiss. But the uneasiness in her heart was gnawing at her insides like a rat, filling her with dread.

"I'm leaving. My strength isn't needed in this place right now."

Frank put on the black ring. His entire body turned pitch black.

Combined with the pale skull emblem on his chest, he looked like a reaper of souls.

Frank's figure flickered in and out of existence. He had stepped into the ranks of the supernatural, and a transformation was underway. A favored one of Death was, after all, different from a normal human, even if he was just a temporary worker.

"I think you should consider whether Death will actually honor the conditions she spoke of," Constantine said with a trace of worry, watching Frank gradually transform into something resembling a skeleton.

As a professional who played with contracts, he was perpetually filled with suspicion.

Constantine wasn't worried about how miserable Frank might become, but rather whether Death harbored any intentions she shouldn't have.

Frank, however, vanished from everyone's sight without saying a word.

"Death? What a bizarre existence."

Tony Stark was holding the remains of a Cyberman, examining it closely. Once he understood this technology, his Iron Man suit would definitely enter a brand-new domain.

Technology was his life.

Although he could still feel a strange throbbing inside his head, with alien technology right in front of him, he had no mood to focus on anything else.

Just as the group was murmuring amongst themselves, Bul-Kathos's figure appeared. He tore open a portal and walked through.

The moment the portal opened, that vast and violent aura began to retract.

Bul-Kathos was well aware of the impact his full presence would have on others, so restraint was his most common state.

However, he did not bring the Three Ancients back with him, as there was still a large swarm of demonized Daleks in that other world. Bul-Kathos would feel uncomfortable if he didn't clean those things up properly.

But he had no interest in personally hunting down those demons anymore. Azmodan was currently chatting casually with Andariel inside his head, which he found incredibly aggravating.

"I've already dealt with Azmodan... Wait, Death was here!?"

On Bul-Kathos's bare chest, a strange pattern was flickering, resembling a tattoo of a radiating sun.

The shimmering light obscured the dense scars on his chest, lending him an air of nobility.

There was an imperceptible trace of anger in Bul-Kathos's tone. He still remembered Death fleeing right in front of him; that guy still owed him two souls!

His ill will toward Death lingered because of Malthael's existence, so Bul-Kathos was a bit ticked off.

The aura he hadn't fully calmed inadvertently leaked out, making everyone present feel threatened.

This was primarily because Bul-Kathos hadn't completely mastered the Rule he had obtained from the Rings of Akhaten. It was still influencing him, even if he could now crudely utilize the Rule attached to him.

"You?"

The Doctor's face held a look of shock. The existence of the Rings of Akhaten was no secret to him; he just hadn't gone to see that powerful entity personally yet.

But that didn't stop him from sensing the strange tattoo that was still radiating power.

So, the Doctor uttered a single-word question in his astonishment.

"I'm off to handle business. I sense the aura of another Prime Evil."

Bul-Kathos's eyebrows knitted together. The aura of Mephisto reviving over by Alucard made him want to sneeze.

Hell Lords were popping up one after another like bamboo shoots after a rain, and it made him extremely displeased.

So, he ignored the Doctor, who looked like he wanted to say something but stopped. He simply glanced at Hellboy, who was lying on the ground, then leaped into the air. With a massive Leap Attack, he rushed toward the distant battlefield.

The Prime Evil was the thing he needed to face urgently.

He wasn't in as much of a rush this time, however, because Imperius's aura had appeared alongside it. Although he was still hurrying over, he didn't need to unleash his full power like he did when chasing Azmodan.

The power of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, was roughly on par with Imperius's subordinate. There wouldn't be any messy aftermath that would be hard to clean up in the short term.

So this time, he had to travel carefully to avoid bringing any ominous atmosphere to this pitiful planet due to a loss of emotional control.

"Bul-Kathos! Please, go check on Luke! I feel like I'm going to lose him!"

When Jessica saw Bul-Kathos, it was as if she had found a pillar of support. She pleaded with urgency.

After repeatedly using potions, her injuries had fully healed, but she was still too weak for this battlefield.

"Barbarians always die in battle! That is the inevitable experience after becoming a Barbarian! Aside from oneself, no one can save anything!"

Bul-Kathos roared loudly, his voice transmitting to every corner of the city.

He would not intervene in Luke's battle, for that fight was fair and just, and it was Luke's own choice.

If Luke had intended to flee, simply returning to the Sacred Mountain of Harrogath would have sufficed.

Luke had not sent a distress signal, nor had he chosen to run.

Therefore, giving him the respect due to a warrior was the best choice.

Bul-Kathos's voice made the few struggling in the final battalion understand his meaning in unison.

Since it was their own choice, they would see it through. Barbarians had the strongest shield backing them, enough to shelter them.

But after becoming Barbarians, they all understood what a warrior should be.

And so, scattered war cries began to ring out across the city. Whether it was Luke or Rumlow, they were using their voices to respond to Bul-Kathos.

Jessica gripped her hand axe and soared into the air in the direction of Luke's roar.

In her heart, she and Luke were one. If that was the case, they would face the danger over there together!

Her combat power wasn't needed here anymore anyway.

Rorschach cleaved a Dalek in two with his axe, then chased after the direction Bul-Kathos was heading.

After seeing the projection of half of Azmodan's power in the Sacred Mountain's Rift, Rorschach's hatred for those creatures had reached an all-time high.

This concerned the "truth" he cared about, so he intended to see the situation of the Prime Evil who was as famous as Azmodan with his own eyes.

Even if he died, he would never compromise.

(Author's Note: Just a transition chapter.

The next update is expected to be released before 7:00 AM.

This volume is beginning to wrap up. The plot of the next volume will explain why characters from Marvel and DC appear in the same world, and why some super-scale existences haven't shown up.

The foreshadowing has already been laid.

The number of superheroes will start to explode in the next volume, and those household names will begin to become active.

After this event concludes, ambitious schemers will set their sights on the Barbarians.

None of the native villains are fools, so tearing apart conspiracies will be the main theme of the next volume.

There are still plotlines here for Weeping Angels, Alucard, and Mina Harker. The Doctor will leave this world after being "used," leaving behind an important gift for Bul-Kathos.
