Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

The train came to a stop, and the mercenaries in the film's plot disembarked one by one. Zhang Jie followed without hesitation. The others trailed behind more reluctantly—no one was foolish enough to gamble with their own life.

Outside the carriage was an area resembling a factory workshop. The moment they stepped off, the mercenaries' professionalism showed. Several of them raised their weapons, moving with perfect coordination and sharp vigilance. By contrast, the other people from the Lord God's Space moved like ordinary civilians—slow steps, no awareness of their surroundings at all.

Nothing happened along the way, and soon the group reached the end of the passage. In front of them stood a gate made of some unknown alloy, solid and imposing.

I bet I could punch through that now… I'll try it later, Su Yu thought with a mischievous grin.

To the right of the gate was a warning sign marked with the "nuclear energy" symbol, indicating extreme danger on the other side. But the mercenaries' objective lay beyond this barrier, so they ignored the warning and began studying how to open it.

"Listen to me—I want to know who you are and what's going on here." The speaker was a young woman in a red dress. This was undoubtedly Alice, the lead character of this movie. Arms crossed over her chest, she spoke with serious authority: "Tell me now!"

Yet beneath Alice's serious tone, Su Yu caught a faint trace of panic. It wasn't surprising—waking up with no memory, dragged along by a squad of armed strangers into a strange and threatening place… anyone would be unsettled.

Mercenary captain Matthew Addison exchanged a glance with Alice before explaining the situation.

Su Yu, however, wasn't really listening. Back in her otaku days, she had read the novel Infinite Horror. She had never been impressed with the so-called "Saint" of that story. A saint? Anyone who's read ancient cultivation novels knows the true level of a saint. If you can become one just by tweaking your genes, then why would cultivators spend hundreds of millions of years still falling short? If you ask me, even a fifth-level saint would barely match an Earth Immortal.

While Su Yu's thoughts wandered, Matthew Addison finished describing the basics of the Hive. Alice suddenly pointed toward Su Yu and the others.

"Then who are they?" she demanded.

Matthew Addison frowned. "According to company records, they're all security personnel here. But I doubt those records. Except for the Asian man—he's clearly trained—the rest of you look like ordinary civilians. And someone explain to me how an eleven- or twelve-year-old girl can be a security guard. That's illegal child labor."

Lord God, are you kidding me? Giving me such a ridiculous cover identity? Are you forcing me to complain? And what's with calling me a little girl? I'm twenty-one! I just happen to be petite!

Height was a sore point for Su Yu—one of her deepest frustrations—so the jab stung. She decided to make a point.

Under Matthew Addison's wary gaze, Su Yu walked up to the gate they'd been struggling with.

With a loud BANG, she drove her fist into it, sending the heavy alloy slab flying open.

"Now do you believe I'm qualified to be a security guard?" she said with exaggerated nonchalance before strolling back toward the group. So this is what it feels like to show off. I'm definitely doing this more often. And I'm not even afraid of divine retribution anymore.

Everyone stared in stunned silence. They didn't snap out of it until she had already rejoined the group.

After a long pause, Matthew Addison turned to another mercenary and muttered, "You're Aotu—no… You're an alien."

"That's a pretty rude thing to say. This is Chinese Kung Fu," Su Yu replied, irritation flashing across her face. She had clearly heard what he really wanted to say—that she was one of those weirdos who wore underwear on the outside, like some tacky superhero. What is it with Americans watching too much Japanese media lately? And how do they not notice I'm wearing my underwear in the normal place?

"Chinese Kung Fu? So this is the legendary Chinese martial art," Matthew Addison murmured to himself. The mercenaries' eyes shifted when they looked at the reincarnators—there was new respect there. They now seemed to think every reincarnator was a human-shaped Tyrannosaurus in disguise.

Even among the reincarnators, Su Yu's display was shocking. She had achieved something far beyond Zhang Jie's capabilities—even after he'd survived several horror films. Punching through an alloy gate with raw strength alone wasn't human anymore. If she were wearing a superhero outfit right now, they might actually believe she was one.

"Impressive… the Umbrella Corporation has some powerful security," Matthew Addison said.

No, the Umbrella Corporation doesn't have anyone like this, the reincarnators who knew the truth thought in unison.

"Back to the point—the reason you've all lost your memories is due to the Hive's word-defense system. The Hive's central computer is controlled by the Red Queen. If it determines the Hive is under attack, it releases a nerve gas that knocks people unconscious for around four hours. One side effect is memory loss. How long it lasts depends on your physical constitution."

"Word-defense system? Does that mean the Hive's already been attacked? Are there terrorists inside?" The speaker was Matt, the film's male lead, who had joined the Umbrella Corporation to search for his sister.

"It could be worse than that," Matthew Addison said grimly.

He walked up to the door Su Yu had smashed open and peered into the pitch-black space beyond, unable to see anything with the naked eye.

At his signal, the mercenary codenamed "J," wearing night-vision goggles, nodded, picked up his sniper rifle, and moved inside.

The reincarnators weren't under Matthew Addison's command, so he had no right to order them. "I don't know what your capabilities are, but—"

"We'll help," Su Yu cut in before he could finish. Beside her, Zhang Jie drew his pistol, ready for whatever came next.
