Chapter 258 - Chapter 256 "Father-in-law, there's fish!"

Tezzolo is working hard for his future, but hard work doesn't always guarantee results.

From sunrise to sunset, Tezzolo never saw Kate, and the first step of his plan had failed.

Kate is indeed still in Piltover and has not returned to Zou immediately; she hasn't decided on the matter yet.

Tezzolo didn't meet Kate simply because he misjudged one thing: Kate's actions were completely unpredictable and she did whatever she pleased.

As the captain of the royal guards, the biggest problem would be if anyone could easily find out her whereabouts.

Not to mention Tezzolo, even the cats in the cat cafe don't know when Kate will show up.

Only within the royal city could Kate operate according to certain patterns, and only those who had gained her trust could grasp these patterns.

If Tesoro can truly grasp this pattern, then Alifa, who is infiltrating here, would probably have to come and learn from him.

Getting into Oran's circle is no easy task. Besides all sorts of strange and unusual life forms, there are even two people in this circle who can read minds.

Tezzolo stayed in this place for half a month before he met Kate again.

Although Tezzolo got the pattern wrong, he was right about one thing: this was indeed a place Kate frequented.

"Lady Kate, I have something to say. Please give me a chance. I'd like to..."

"If you want to join the army, go to the recruitment office; if you want to become an official, take the exam. Finding a cat won't help."

Unfortunately, Tezzolo was interrupted before he could finish speaking. There are many people like that in Piltover, all wanting to take shortcuts.

Perhaps there are a few truly talented individuals among them, but the vast majority are merely armchair strategists.

To be precise, it's fine to have the ability to talk about military strategy on paper, then one is qualified as a staff member. Most of these people are just fond of grand achievements and have no practical skills.

Ten years after its founding, Piltover's political system has completely broken away from the shadow of the former Fafler dynasty and has undergone considerable adjustments and changes, and has recently become basically stable.

At the highest level is Oran himself, who is also the only king, followed by members of the royal family and clan members.

A strongman like Redfield is an exception. Although he is semi-retired, his status in the country is not low. The title of Red Earl can really be regarded as a real title here.

Next, we go down to officials, with the highest level being national ministers, such as the finance minister and the municipal minister.

These are tasks that ordinary people cannot easily handle. Either the pressure is shared by androids with advanced AI programs, or by trusted confidants like Ginny. Brand is already an exception.

The second tier of officials consists of ministers in various regions of Piltover, a position that represents the maximum a person can achieve, responsible for managing a specific district.

The third level is no longer considered a minister, but simply a public official, which can be further subdivided into three levels.

The superiors include assistants to the regional ministers, who are responsible for helping the regional ministers manage the officials below them.

Members of parliament who have no real power can provide feedback to higher authorities based on policy changes.

Intermediate level includes various high-ranking officials, such as squad leaders in the security forces.

The term "lower level" encompasses the broadest range, including civil servants, members of the security forces, taxpayers, and the like.

The military has a separate system where officers are directly under the king's command, and the guards are also included in this system.

The presence of androids in many key positions is a way to increase execution capabilities and also provides upward mobility for those below.

After that, they are ordinary citizens. Those who possess technology and strength are classified as special-grade citizens, receiving slightly higher subsidies, but otherwise there is no difference.

The rest are ordinary citizens who enjoy the same rights, but receive slightly less in subsidies, and the last group of non-citizens who only have the right to live freely but are not eligible for welfare benefits.

"This country is growing and needs more talent, and I need an opportunity."

Kate was more interested in the little white kitten in her hands than Tezzolo's self-recommendation.

Unlike the Mink Tribe, a minority group that has evolved civilization, white fur is not a plus in a purely feline society.

It's rare to see such a pure white animal unless it's in a place covered in snow year-round. Without protection to conceal its fur color, both hunting and evading become much more difficult.

This is also one of the reasons why Kate herself prefers this cat, as they have both been ostracized.

"Meow."

Meow~

"You've managed to stay here for so long, you do have some patience."

But can you charge into battle and single-handedly break through an army?

Can you do infiltration, assassination, and intelligence gathering?

Or, could you invent something, save lives, or do that?

Through her interaction with the white cat, Kate gained some understanding of Tezzolo's actions during this period.

At least he did some research and persisted in taking action. If he really had the ability, she wouldn't mind giving him a chance.

However, the options Kate mentioned are all things that Tezzolo cannot currently do.

Piltover has its own rules, and to break those rules, you have to demonstrate extraordinary abilities.

Aside from physical force, which can be demonstrated through physical means, and inventions that can be proven with finished products, other things require a platform.

Unfortunately, Tezzolo is unable to demonstrate anything he is capable of right now.

Tezzolo's only skills that he could demonstrate on the spot were stealing and gambling, and he had been caught doing so before. In Kate's opinion, this was a typical case of not being able to seize an opportunity.

After lingering for a while, they left, leaving only Tesoro behind, lost in thought.

After two weeks of surveillance, this attempt was unsuccessful. The only person they could contact was Brand, but there were rumors in Piltover that he might be gay, which made Tesoro hesitate.

The sound of a knife slicing across a plate rang out, and Leliana's arm moved almost in a blur as a roasted sea creature on the table vanished in a flash. The high-calorie fat, however, failed to fill Leliana's stomach.

While eating, she even had time to share some of the meat with Terra.

Elemental dragons eat soil and ores, but they will not refuse ordinary food.

Frankenstein ate the battery out of boredom, a new way of recharging it that mainly allowed her to be more involved at the dinner table.

Zach then incorporated some of the bones into his body, allowing the strange liquid to directly corrode them, thus replenishing his energy.

"By the way, Meow met another person trying to take shortcuts today. Although they still wanted to take shortcuts, they were quite persistent. They waited for me for a long time at the cat cafe. Maybe they'd be suitable for the intelligence department."

Using her nimble cat tongue, Kate scraped the fish meat off the bones and then began to recount the events of the day.

"What's his name, Gilder Taylor? I forgot to ask him his name; Xiaobai's description was a bit unclear."

Tezzolo was clearly not very skilled in this regard, and didn't even introduce himself beforehand, which meant Kate couldn't remember his name at all. He even had to thank the cat, otherwise he would have been addressed as "that guy".

"Really? The field operations department is short-staffed. I'll go check it out tomorrow."

Ginny has developed a very special ability: she can clearly express what she wants to say while her mouth is stuffed with a lot of food, which is a rare talent.

"Kate, are you sure it's Taro and not Tesoro?"

"Meow, I'm not sure. Oran, do you know him?"

"Perhaps we know each other."

In a sense, whether it's Taro or Tesoro, the creatures of the M78 Nebula shouldn't be able to find human hosts in this place. Oran still leans towards the idea that Kate misheard the name.

"Household registration book".

Oran snapped his fingers, and a book appeared in his hand.

Piltover has its own population records department, but after each update, Oran also uses his abilities to access the household registers to find information.

"Gilde Tezzolo".

As Oran activated his ability, the book opened automatically, and with a rustling sound of the pages, it quickly turned to the corresponding page.

Luckily, there were no people with the same name on the island.

"Kate, is it him?"

"Yes, it's him. He's a slave, sent by Shak. We can recruit someone like him; he does have some perseverance. His wife is also a slave. This family is probably not friendly to the World Government."

Looking at the information on the household registration, Kate felt that the other person's background in Piltover was practically "pure and upright".

"He is indeed a talented person. I will handle it myself. You have unintentionally brought over an interesting person."

Even before Piltover became a member state, it received immigrants periodically, and Oran didn't care who each person was.

If Tezzolo hadn't run into him today, it would probably have taken him quite some time to discover him.

Putting everything else aside, this "Golden Emperor" from the original timeline was exceptionally good at making money. He was able to get the World Government to recognize his ships as a unique and legitimate nation by relying on his vast funds, which can be described as having the power to do anything with money.

According to his household registration records, he was working as a dockworker not long ago, and he is still struggling financially.

"Nayafili, go and take the message with you."

Oran's twin swords, hanging at his waist, transformed into wolf form once more, and he ran toward the address recorded as Tesoro's residence.

"Let me test just how capable this person really is."

Making money can be difficult or easy, but if you have a solid foundation and can seize opportunities, it really can "reproduce" itself.

However, without initial capital, the road becomes very difficult. Simply having capital without connections or access to information means being completely exploited by outsiders.

Oran has the funds and the connections; what he lacks is someone capable of making sound judgments. Now, he's preparing to test Tesoro.

Just because he could make money in the original timeline doesn't mean he can now.

Tesoro was still struggling with what to do next. Giving gifts was not an option in Piltover. Humans were greedy, but androids were not. The androids mixed in with those public officials could effectively prevent this from happening.

It was at this moment that his door was knocked on.
