Chapter 48 - Jealousy and Fire

Vale's POV

"A bond with me," Vincent repeated, his black eyes gleaming.

Before I could respond, Adrian broke free from the shadow chains with a roar of fury.

"Over my dead body," he snarled, vampire fangs extended.

But he wasn't looking at Vincent. He was glaring at Zephyr with pure hatred.

"This is your fault, dragon," Adrian accused. "If you hadn't interfered, I could have stabilized her with a blood bond."

"My fault?" Zephyr laughed harshly, golden fire crackling around his hands. "You were about to bite her without permission, parasite."

"Enough!" Kieran shouted, breaking his own chains with demon strength. "We're supposed to be helping Vale, not—"

His words cut off as his demon nature suddenly surged. His eyes turned completely black, matching Vincent's, and when he spoke again, his voice was deeper. Hungrier.

"Actually," demon-Kieran said with a cruel smile, "maybe they have the right idea. The strongest should claim the prize."
