Chapter 2 - Prologue

It was supposed to be just another night.

Jiang Xiao Shuai hadn't meant to come home early. He hadn't meant to see what he saw–his boyfriend tangled in someone else's arms, lips where only his had belonged.

His heart didn't break all at once. It cracked slowly, painfully, like porcelain dropped from just a shelf too high.

He didn't scream. Didn't fight. Just turned around and walked out.

Hours later, he was at a bar he didn't recognize, numb fingers gripping a drink he didn't remember ordering. The lights were too dim, the music too loud, but the ache inside him drowned it all out.

Across the room, Guo Cheng Yu watched him.

Amid the haze of cigars, guns, and whispered deals, a quiet boy in a white coat was the last thing he expected to find.

But once he saw him...

He couldn't look away.

"Li Wang," he said calmly, eyes still on the boy,

"Find out who he is."
