Chapter 61: Meeting with Mrs. M
William walked into the Hilton Hotel carrying a pizza and anti-inflammatory drugs. While waiting for the elevator, he took out his phone and dialed Bond's number.
The phone rang for what seemed like an eternity before someone connected. "Hello, who is this?" came Bond's voice.
"Hello, Craig. It's William Devinshire. Do you know who I am?"
There was a sound of movement on the other end, and Bond's breathing grew heavier. "Of course. Is there anyone in England who doesn't know you now? The super-genius plus super-lunatic."
"A lunatic? Me? Who said that? How could I be a lunatic?" William asked, confused.
"Ha, you haven't heard? Hahaha, William Devinshire, perhaps you should read yesterday's English newspapers. 'English Super-Genius Predicts Nasdaq Collapse: Genius or Lunatic?' Isn't that hilarious? Two days ago, you were the genius praised by the nation; today, you're the lunatic everyone's shouting about. I could laugh about this for a year," Bond said, his tone full of satire.
"Alright, I'll be sure to read the papers. But if I were you, I'd first listen to the reason I'm calling," William said with a chuckle.
Bond fell silent for a moment before saying, "Fine, William. Tell me why you called."
"Don't you already have the answer in your heart? Captain Craig Daniel, of the front-line airborne special service group. You truly are one of the elite. That's why Le Chiffre will be looking for you so desperately, and I don't want any further contradictions with him."
"What is it?" Bond asked hurriedly. He knew William wouldn't be calling for no reason.
"The plot to bomb the plane failed. Our dear banker, Mr. Lesifer, stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars, and his middleman, Erix Dimitios, was caught by us. After losing that much money, what do you think Mr. Lesifer will do, Mr. Bond?"
"Find whoever leaked the news," Bond answered quietly.
"Correct, Mr. Bond. You now have two choices. First, if you care about the beauty with you, send her away. If you don't care, then perhaps you can help me kill the people Lesifer sends. Consider it a return favor for my call," William said.
"No, I have a better choice," Bond said. "I'll send Soran to a safe place, then return to the hotel and wait. I'll grab everyone who comes to my door. Mrs. M will be pleased with my methods."
William scoffed. "Just you, Bond? Don't underestimate Lesifer. He isn't just a banker. He's connected to 'Al and Nya'—you should know what that is. He has countless mercenaries and killers working for him. Be careful, Bond."
After listening to William, Bond paused to think. "Thank you, William. I'll be careful. I've dealt with people like these before."
"Good. By the way, I left a Glock 17 and five magazines on the bedside table in your room. I hope they'll be useful."
"Thank you. We're clear, William."
Bond hung up, walked to the bed to wake Soran, and opened the bedside table.
"Get up quickly. We're in trouble. I have to take you somewhere safe," Bond said to Soran. He picked up the Glock 17, clipped the magazines to his waist, put on a coat, and pulled Soran out the door.
William wasn't concerned about Bond. He knew how fierce the man was—a different breed from all the Bonds who came before. There were very few people who could truly get the better of him.
William entered his hotel room, took off his clothes, and threw them in the trash bin. He changed into a hotel robe and went into the bathroom, taking a shower to wash away the smell of smoke.
William walked into the bedroom and saw that Alexander was awake, reading a magazine in bed. He smiled and kissed her forehead. "It's so late. Why aren't you sleeping?"
Alexander put down the magazine. "I woke up and you weren't here. I couldn't get back to sleep. Where did you go, dear? Surely it doesn't take that long just to buy a few things."
William got into bed and lay down beside Alexander. "I had to take care of something, dear. Don't worry about me. How are you feeling now? Any better? I bought painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs. Do you want to take one?"
Alexander playfully smacked William's waist. "It's all your fault, you brute. It hurts, but I don't need to take any medicine. It'll be fine in a day or two."
"Haha, my dear, you truly surprised me," William said. "Aren't Brazilian girls supposed to be the enthusiastic ones? Yet that was a first for me. Truly surprising."
"I'm not like everyone else. I wanted to save my most precious gift for someone who truly made me feel something special," Alexander said, her mood turning somber. "I've seen so many girls in the modeling world since I was fifteen who just fall into that lifestyle. In the end, how many of them find a good outcome?"
"Okay, okay, my dear," William said, holding her close. "I will take care of you. Everything will be fine. You won't have to work so hard anymore. I'll help you, I promise."
"Mm," Alexander murmured, holding William's waist and leaning against his chest. They chatted quietly about their pasts until they both drifted off to sleep.
The next day, while William was in the shower, his mobile phone rang.
When he answered, Bond's voice came through the line. "Mr. Devinshire, Mrs. M wants to see you. We are waiting for you at the Ocean Club. A helicopter will be there to pick you up."
William looked at the time on his phone. It was only seven in the morning. *Damn it,* he thought, *I knew I shouldn't have come to Miami.*
William got out of the shower and started to put on his clothes.
"So early, dear? Are you going out?" Alexander asked, her eyes still hazy with sleep.
"I have to go out for a while to see someone," William said. "Will you be alright on your own today, dear?"
Alexander answered sensibly, "No problem, dear. I happen to be a bit sore today, so I'll just rest at the hotel. I'll be waiting for you to come back."
"Okay, dear. I'll be back as soon as I can. You go back to sleep," William said. "I'll have the front desk send up breakfast for you at 8:30. What would you like?"
"Whatever is fine. Just ask the front desk for something low-calorie. They know what to make for models. Now go, I'm going back to sleep," Alexander said, turning her head back into the pillow.
"Alright," William said, kissing her on the forehead. "Love you, dear."
"Mmm, love you too," Alexander returned.
William finished getting ready, put on a suit, then went down to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. Afterward, he called the front desk to arrange for Alexander's meal.
A little over an hour later, William arrived in front of the Ocean Club and saw Mrs. M and Bond waiting for him.
