Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: Unsealing the Elder Kai

Sacred World of the Kais

"Impudent mortal how did you enter the Kai Realm?" Kibito barked, chin tilted in haughty disdain.

"Out of my way, trash." Gohan's eyes hardened; a soundless shockwave blasted Kibito off his feet.

"Sir, that was… rather discourteous, don't you think?" The Supreme Kai, Shin, stepped forward.

"Shin, do yourself a favor and keep your attendant in line before he lands you in real trouble," Gohan shot back without softening.

"My people are my concern. State your business," Shin said, frowning. Even among gods, he wasn't about to be bullied.

"Take me to the Z Sword. I'll pull it."

"How do you even know about the Z Sword? Who are you?" Shin's wariness spiked.

"You ask too many damn questions."

Gohan rocketed skyward, scanning for the mountain he remembered. In moments he found it the blade whose hilt alone jutted from stone.

fwoosh

He flashed to the sword in a blur.

"Supreme Kai?" Kibito wiped blood from the corner of his mouth, looking for orders.

"Be silent," Shin snapped, then flew to the mountaintop as well.

"Listen," Shin said when he arrived. "No one in the entire universe has ever drawn the Z Sword. Don't humiliate yourself."

"Enough talking." Gohan planted his feet. "Haaaaaaah!"

Power roared out of him Super Saiyan Two a golden storm tearing up the sky. The pressure alone made the mountain groan.

Shin stared, shaken. Maybe… maybe Majin Buu finally has a match.

Gohan wrapped both hands around the hilt.

"Up… with… you! HAA!"

Veins rose along his arms; muscle bunched like cable. The world trembled. The sword budged then inched higher.

Shin stumbled back, eyes wide. "Impossible. Impossible!"

"Out!"

SHRING !

With a peal like thunder, the Z Sword came free. The mountain collapsed into a rolling avalanche.

"What a blade. The weight is perfect." Gohan gave it a test swing, satisfaction bright in his eyes.

"Who are you?" Shin asked, rattled.

"You're the god who shepherds life. You can't tell what race I am?" Gohan's tone flattened.

Color crept up Shin's neck. "My apologies."

"Forget it. The lineage is broken it's not all on you." Gohan lifted the sword. "You can still conjure Katchin, right?"

"I can. The deeper arts may be lost, but the fundamentals remain," Shin said evenly.

"Good. Make a block and throw it. Let's see how sharp this really is."

"Arrogant mortal," Kibito spat, finding his voice again. "Even if you drew the Z Sword, you're still just "

"Trash talks too much." Gohan's glare flashed Eye Beams snapped from his pupils and punched a hole clean through Kibito's heart.

Kibito crashed to the stone, life draining from his eyes.

"That was excessive!" Shin darted to him, flooding Kibito's chest with shimmering Kai energy. Muscle knit; the ruined heart reformed. The glazed pupils steadied and Kibito gasped back to consciousness.

He didn't speak. He only stared at Gohan with a gaze curdled into hate.

Great. Did I just manufacture another Zamasu? Gohan thought, a ripple of annoyance crossing his face.

"I don't know who you are," Shin said tightly, "but anyone who can draw the Z Sword is no villain. Why humiliate my attendant?"

"Attendants should know their place. Don't underestimate this universe." Gohan didn't spare Kibito a glance.

"I'll handle his education," Shin said, resigned. "You needn't lift another finger."

"See that you do." Gohan raised the sword. "Now Katchin."

"…Very well."

Shin raised his right hand. A dense, black-gray cube of Katchin the hardest metal known condensed out of nothing.

"Catch."

He flicked it forward.

SHING!

Just as Gohan expected the Z Sword cleaved the Katchin clean in two.

"No… no! The invincible sacred blade broken?!" Shin recoiled, aghast.

Gohan let the sword fall. A ripple like heat over stone spread across the air.

tok tok tok

A wizened, rather hideous old man popped into existence.

"First meeting Elder Kai at your service." Gohan bowed with real respect despite the looks.

"You are…?" Shin sputtered.

"I am the Supreme Kai of the Fifteenth Generation," the old man said, voice dry as parchment.

"That's impossible. Then why were you sealed in the Z Sword?"

"Young one," the Elder Kai said with a sage's gravity, "I was too powerful. Enemies sealed me in that blade."

Gohan snorted. "Keep the grandstanding to a minimum and we'll get along fine."

The old man peered at him. "A Saiyan? Hah it's been ages since I've seen a Super Saiyan."

"Old ginger's the spiciest," Gohan quipped, nodding his respect.

"And you how does a youngster know so much, and why free me now?" the Elder Kai asked, genuinely curious.

"Beerus came to see me."

The Elder Kai went pale. Sweat popped on his brow. "Beerus…?"

"He's not here. Relax." Gohan waved it off. "I know your… tastes and your real skill. I'm here for a potential unlock."

"Don't scare an old man like that," the Elder Kai grumbled, dabbing his forehead. "Ahem. I do have such an ability. But there are terms."

"Oh, drop the act," Gohan said, deadpan. "You do it, and I'll bring you something you really like. Deal?"

"Kh !" Caught, the Elder Kai coughed into his fist, sheepish. "Fine, fine. Sit down."
