[Ding! The Dimensional Gate System is honored to serve Saitama once again. The world you are about to enter is "The Incredible Hulk."]
[Ding! Assigned crossover identity: Black-Net Mercenary Saitama]
[Ding! Random mission issued: Complete one mercenary task. Reward: Unknown.]
The system prompt echoed in Saitama's mind, and the world went dark.
United States.
Dayton, Ohio.
In the middle of a barren, flat stretch of sand dunes, a lonely shack stood.
The old, run-down building gave off a faint smell of decay, with dust collecting thick on its windowsills.
Standing in the doorway, a shapely young woman in a simple shirt and light-washed jeans—her long legs perfectly outlined—looked slightly stunned.
Betty Ross. As one of the world's leading scientists in the field of biology, she had worked with Bruce Banner to tackle a project on gamma radiation and its potential to activate hidden biological potential.
But recently, her colleague Bruce Banner had suddenly gone missing. With no leads, she had come to his old home to investigate.
Bang—
Just as Betty turned to check the other rooms, something plummeted from the sky and landed right at the door.
"…"
Betty froze, then quickly rushed forward in alarm when she saw it was a person. "Are you alright? What happened?"
Saitama climbed out of the cracked dirt and stone, grumbling internally at the damned system—he'd already cursed it a dozen times. Why did it always have to make him crash land like this? It knew perfectly well he couldn't fly!
Ah, such was the frustration of being the strongest king… but only on land.
"I'm fine."
Brushing the dust from his hero suit and shaking dirt off his belt, Saitama glanced around curiously at this new world. "Where is this?"
"Dayton, Ohio… I—I'm Betty Ross."
As a biologist, Betty found this scene unbelievable.
A pit nearly two meters deep—impact force like that could only come from falling several kilometers. Any normal organism, even the famously tough Mississippi alligator, would have its organs reduced to pulp.
But this bald young man… didn't have a scratch on him?
"Um… would you like to come inside? I… I'm very curious about your body!"
Betty couldn't comprehend what kind of cells could withstand such force. She even suspected his physiology might surpass the theoretical limits of nanoparticle durability.
"My body?"
Saitama looked at himself, then at Betty.
"Uh~~~"
Realizing the possible misunderstanding—saying something like that to a man on their first meeting—Betty's cheeks flushed bright red. "Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. I'm a biologist. I specialize in cellular research."
Saitama thought for a moment, then nodded. This world was unfamiliar, and meeting someone who could actually talk to him was better than ending up in the middle of nowhere.
Betty carefully but eagerly invited Saitama into the house, setting out some fruit and snacks, which Saitama happily dug into.
"I haven't asked your name yet."
Betty, notebook already in hand, looked at Saitama with shining eyes. His seemingly indestructible defense had sparked her deepest curiosity.
"Saitama. A professional hero for fun."
"Hero?"
Betty blinked, then chuckled softly. "People still have that as a job? That's the first I've heard of it."
"Yeah. Oh… but I guess here I'm a mercenary now."
Saitama spoke casually as he ate.
"Mercenary?"
Betty tensed slightly, though she relaxed when she saw his nonchalant demeanor. "You… you really did fall from the sky just now, didn't you?"
"Seems like it. Do you need to hire help? I'm free lately."
Glancing at the system's mission prompt in his vision, Saitama offered.
"Hire… um, maybe not right now. But, Mr. Saitama, could I employ you as my research assistant? Don't worry—I just want to run some tests on your body, maybe… just a tiny bit of cell and blood sampling." Betty's eyes were full of expectation.
Such a powerful being, dressed in a way that made her feel he didn't quite belong to this world—it only deepened her curiosity.
"Blood draw? Not interested."
Saitama yawned. He had no desire to be some human lab rat, even if Betty seemed friendly enough.
Just as Betty was about to speak again, a man's pained voice came from one of the rooms.
"Ugh, my head… Where… where am I? What happened?"
On the bed inside, a shirtless man—his shorts torn—was holding his head, face twisted in discomfort.
Betty froze in the doorway.
Saitama followed the sound curiously, his gaze focusing.
Bruce Banner.
