When Bruce Banner loses control, the military as it stands has no hope of stopping him. Saitama was only worried about causing greater chaos.
After all, he was a professional hero.
But to General Ross, those words were nothing but a naked threat.
Ross, known for his iron-blooded toughness, moved without hesitation—he drew his pistol and pulled the trigger.
Bang—
The heavy gunshot startled the helicopter pilot. The soldiers assigned to security had already racked their rifles but didn't dare pull the trigger.
Saitama caught the bullet between two fingers, then popped it into his mouth like candy.
Crunch, crunch—
The grating sound made their teeth ache. A moment later, he spat out a mouthful of shattered fragments.
Ross: "…"
Soldiers: "…"
"Tastes pretty ordinary."
"Old man, I'm only letting you off because of Betty. If you keep annoying me…"
Saitama picked up Ross's pistol. In the general's stunned gaze, he slowly crushed the weapon into a lump with his bare hand, then tossed it away.
Who knew how far it flew? The sharp crack of a sonic boom made Ross wonder if that had been a missile instead of a handgun.
Gulp—
He swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing.
Ross's face turned pale, and his voice trembled. "Maybe… we can talk this out."
…
One hour earlier
Inside the nanite particle research lab.
Equipment that should have been shut down was somehow running again. A stooped, elderly figure was rapidly keying in commands.
The gamma-ray emitter hummed faintly, active.
Bzz—
Invisible rays converged on the old man's body.
After a full ten seconds, he collapsed to his knees, gasping.
A patrolling security guard in the hallway heard the noise and approached cautiously.
David Banner stared in shock as the cut on his palm healed before his eyes. His skin took on the same metallic hue as the equipment he touched.
Crack—
His hand sank into the metal casing, yet he was able to pull it back out without harm.
Chameleon ability… combined with fusion?
David's heart pounded. A surge of elation washed over him.
Success!
He had actually succeeded!
Truthfully, he'd succeeded long ago—he had simply lacked the gamma radiation needed to trigger it. With the dose now calibrated, there was no problem at all.
"What are you doing?"
The Black security guard approached warily, his hand on the pistol at his waist.
Sneaking into this now military-restricted facility was a serious crime.
"My hand… my son's DNA… combined with the regenerative ability of nanomicrobes, I can merge with the very essence of any material."
David straightened, a twisted smile on his face.
"Hands up! Now!" the guard barked.
Bang—
The thousand-pound metal apparatus was lifted by David and slammed down onto the guard like a hammer.
Silence fell.
"Perfect! Hahaha—perfect power!"
David laughed like a madman, a sound of pure ecstasy.
…
Half an hour later.
David Banner didn't flee the restricted facility as he had in the original events. Instead, he waited there—because of one particular person, he had decided to change his plans.
…
A military jeep roared across the desert.
"Man, that guy is a real freak!" a uniformed soldier cursed.
"Yeah, killed more than a dozen of ours! And he's supposed to be Bruce Banner's dad? What, are they all monsters?"
"Well, thank God for your tranq shot."
The soldier in the passenger seat lit a cigarette, his hand still trembling.
The old man had burned down the gamma lab, and when the military surrounded him, they'd discovered—
—he wasn't afraid of bullets.
He could sink into the earth itself, lift boulders the size of jeeps, and had crushed ten soldiers into paste.
Just remembering it made the man's skin crawl.
"Give me one, man. When we get him back, Colonel Glenn can let him and his son have a nice reunion—damn!"
In the back of the jeep, David Banner was bound tightly with military tape. His face, however, showed no concern—if anything, a trace of expectation.
…
17th Military Research Facility
Three hundred feet underground, the massive hive-like complex specialized in classified experiments.
Bruce Banner—the Hulk—had been placed into a stasis pod ten minutes ago, heavily sedated, ready to be moved to a dedicated lab.
"You said you wouldn't hurt him! Glenn!"
Betty struggled and shouted, but two soldiers held her firmly.
"Hey, Betty, you must have forgotten—down here, I give the orders. Not even your daddy can overrule me! That damn monster… I'm getting his serum and cells!"
Colonel Glenn sneered, half his face bandaged and his arm in a sling.
Just then, a soldier rushed in.
"Colonel! We caught another one claiming to be Banner's father. This guy seems to have micronano cells too!"
