"Lanchi! Your magic!" Kmaal the Guardian shouted anxiously while scorching an incoming tentacle with a crystal beam. His purification power was effective, but against the endless stream of Abyss Corroders—and their terrifying regeneration—it was a drop in the bucket.
Doctor Strange had it the hardest. Not only did he have to maintain magical restraints on several of the main Corroders (the scarlet bands had already become extremely thin and could snap at any moment), he also had to keep throwing up small shields to block splashing acid and whipping tentacles. His magic was draining fast, and his face had already gone a little pale.
"They're wearing us down! We have to find a weakness!" Strange gritted out. He rolled aside to avoid a puddle of acid that fell from above, then fired a magic arrow that blew a tentacle apart.
And Saitama was still the most active presence on the battlefield. Like a yellow bolt of lightning, he weaved through gaps between tentacles—each flash accompanied by dull impacts, snapping limbs, and splattering slime. He'd tried hitting the Corroders' pulsating, blister-like main bodies. One punch could crater them, black mucus spewing everywhere, but the monsters' vitality was absurd: the wound would squirm and seal shut almost instantly, unless he completely pulverized the entire mass.
"Hitting the head doesn't work. Hitting the body doesn't work… their regen's too fast." Saitama kept moving at high speed while observing. He noticed that whenever the punch wind from his fist—or the occasional spark from his fist scraping the stone wall—came close to the Corroders, their crimson eyes would unconsciously narrow, and their tentacles would show a tiny, almost imperceptible hesitation.
A thought formed in his simple mind.
"Doc!" After smashing two more tentacles, Saitama suddenly shouted toward Strange, "Use light! The really bright kind! Shine it on them!"
Strange froze for a split second—then instantly understood. These creatures born of darkness had an instinctive disgust… even fear… of intense light!
"Got it!" Strange's eyes sharpened. He abruptly withdrew the binding spell (the scarlet bands shattered on the spot). Raising both hands high, his fingers blooming like lotus petals, he began to chant a rapid, intricate incantation!
"Hoggoth no Kodaishintai (Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth)! By the name of the Vishanti—disperse the darkness—Kōyō no Bakuretsukō (Radiant Sunburst)!"
WUM—!!!
A blinding golden sphere—like a miniature sun—burst into existence between Strange's hands. The next instant, it detonated outward!
An indescribably fierce radiance flooded the entrance of the Echoing Hall in a heartbeat! The light was so scorching it felt like standing under a desert noon sun. The air warped with heat, and every shadow on the stone walls was stripped bare—nowhere to hide!
"SSSRAAAAGH—!!!"
All the Abyss Corroders let out the most horrifying, shrill scream yet the moment the light exploded. Their crimson eyes clenched shut as if stabbed by needles, black pus even oozing out… Their huge bodies trembled and curled up violently, and the tentacles that had been flailing wildly recoiled as if burned, wrapping tightly around their blister-like main bodies. The black slime on their surface boiled and evaporated under the glare!
Now!
Saitama's figure blurred in the blazing light…
