Following the coordinates provided by the documents, the jet arrived deep in the Sahara Desert—over an area that had never been marked on any map. As far as the eye could see, there were only endless golden dunes, glittering under the scorching sun.
"Energy scans show intense spatial distortion and energy reactions below," the pilot reported. "But visually, there's no structure."
Strange and Wanda closed their eyes at the same time, sensing.
"A very strong illusion barrier…" Strange judged. "Or rather—spatial folding magic. The pyramid is hidden."
Wanda extended both hands. Scarlet power rippled outward across the sands below like waves.
"Let me… find you…"
Chaos magic had an overwhelming ability to interfere with reality's structure. Before long, the sea of sand ahead began to shimmer and warp like water. Slowly, the blurred outline of a gigantic sandstone pyramid pierced through the illusion and gradually came into view.
It wasn't standing on top of the desert—it looked as though it had always been buried beneath the sand, and was now being forcibly "revealed."
The pyramid's surface was coated in thick sand and dust, yet many exquisite relief carvings and long-faded murals were still visible, depicting ancient Egyptian gods, pharaohs, and various mysterious rituals. From within the pyramid, a sense of ancient vastness spread outward—along with an undercurrent of deep unease.
The jet couldn't get any closer. Violent energy interference and sandstorms made stable hovering impossible, so the team chose to rappel down again.
Their boots sank into scalding sand. Heat waves rushed into their faces. Even stranger, an unnatural sandstorm swirled around the pyramid—one that never settled.
The sand seemed guided by an invisible force. It didn't just ruin visibility; it twisted their sense of direction and even tried to burrow into mouths and noses, bringing suffocation and disorientation.
"Watch out for the sand!" Strange warned, raising a small protective barrier to block the storm. "It's enchanted."
Fighting their way forward, they found an entrance that was already half-buried. After clearing away the packed sand and stone, a dark, deep passage slanting downward opened before them.
Inside, the air was unnaturally cool—an extreme contrast to the furnace heat outside. The walls were covered in Egyptian hieroglyphs and murals, but many of them weren't praises of Ra or Osiris.
Instead, they depicted dark sacrificial scenes and twisted serpent-like monsters, radiating an eerie wrongness.
"This place's power…" Wanda frowned as she felt the magic in the air. "It's been contaminated."
They hadn't gone far when the traps triggered.
Dense poison darts shot from the walls. Floor tiles flipped over without warning, revealing deep pits lined with rusty iron spikes. Massive boulders dropped from the ceiling…
These ancient physical traps weren't deadly to people with their level of skill, but paired with the ever-present magical interference, they were more than enough to cause trouble.
Saitama once again took point, smashing falling boulders with a punch and stomping pits into collapse, clearing the way for the team.
The deeper they went into the pyramid, the enemies changed.
No more traps.
Instead—mummified warriors wrapped in rotting bandages.
Eerie green flames burned in their eyes. They carried ancient bronze weapons, moving stiffly but with monstrous strength. Worse, they had high resistance to physical attacks and ordinary energy strikes.
They poured out from the shadows of burial chambers and from niches carved into the walls, hissing with a sound that made the skin crawl.
