Chapter 740 - Chapter 740

The core's light went out instantly, and the buzzing cut off mid-scream. All unstable energy fluctuations were completely smoothed out and annihilated by that single punch. Only a wisp of bluish smoke rising from the converter's shell and a faint burnt smell proved it had been on the verge of destruction just moments ago.

A gust of wind swept by, kicking up a little dust, as if retelling the danger from just now. But for Saitama, it was simply another annoying toy taken care of.

Back at home, Saitama finally enjoyed a relatively peaceful dinner. (The supermarket's discounted beef had sold out, so he had to settle for chicken.) He was killing time with a variety show on TV when a gentle—yet direct—voice suddenly echoed inside his head.

"Mr. Saitama, pardon the intrusion. I am Charles Francis Xavier, head of a school for mutants. We've encountered an extremely difficult problem, and we urgently need your help."

Saitama blinked and looked around. "Who's talking?"

"I'm communicating with you directly via telepathy," Professor X's voice remained calm but carried a trace of urgency. "Near my school an extremely unstable spatial rift has appeared. The dark energy pouring out of it has contaminated the surrounding land, and… half an hour ago, it suddenly expanded and pulled several students—who were conducting field training nearby—into the space on the other side of the rift."

"Dark energy again?" Saitama was starting to get used to it. "And students got taken?"

"Yes. Mutated, terrifying creatures are now crawling out of the rift—what we call 'Demon Worms.' They're incredibly powerful, with astonishing physical defense, and their claws seem capable of tearing through adamantium! Our X-Men can't deal with them effectively, and the students' lives are in immediate danger. We sensed that you possess unimaginable strength, and we beg you to lend a hand. I will open a portal for you."

As soon as Professor X finished speaking, golden sparks burst into existence in the air of Saitama's living room. They spun rapidly, expanding into a stable circular portal.

On the other side was a wrecked forest—energy explosions flickered, and distant beastly howls seeped through.

"Alright." Saitama stood up and stepped through the portal.

The far end opened into the woods behind the Xavier Institute. The scene was chaos: trees snapped in half, the ground scorched black.

Cyclops was firing optical blasts. Colossus was trying to block attacks with his metallic body. Storm called down localized lightning.

But their attacks had limited effect on the monsters crawling out of that twisted rift, which seeped black smoke and reeked of dark energy.

Those so-called "Demon Worms" were as big as buses—giant eyeless worms, but with heads packed full of densely layered claws that glinted with a gloomy metallic sheen. Their bodies were coated in thick armor that flowed with dark energy.

One of them swung a claw—

and actually carved a deep gouge into Colossus's adamantium-like arm!

Wolverine roared and charged, his adamantium claws slashing wildly, but all he could do was throw sparks and leave shallow marks on the shell—nowhere near enough to deal a killing blow.

"Logan! Watch out!" Jean Grey used telekinesis to lift a massive boulder and smash it down at another worm, yanking its attention away—
