My mate's expressions always stumped me. Kittra was not a soil elemental. She was fire. Looking at Bao's expression as well, I could tell that this was something I was going to have to ask her about later. Kiera and Bao wore the same expression, so it did not mean the literal term that I thought it did.
Stepping further toward Kittra, Kiera stood just outside the line of trees. Pride filled me as I watched her stand confidently in front of Kittra. There was no fear, no hesitation. Looking at the two of them now, I did not understand what I had ever seen in Kittra. They were night and day. Kittra stood proudly naked, her orange scales turning a deeper shade as her anger flared. Her short hair was disheveled and her tail was whipping behind her angrily, giving her true feelings away. Her self-assured sense of entitlement now making her seem ugly. It was obvious that her beauty only went skin deep. I was ashamed that I had ever let her in my castle in the first place.
