Chapter 295 - Chapter 295: Pre-Season Warm-Up, Players Return to the Team

So from the very beginning, the logic of the extreme club loyalists was flawed.

If the goal is truly what's best for the team, then the team shouldn't be advancing under the club's control, but under the control of the side that's in the right.

When the players are the ones who understand the correct direction, then the players should run the sporting side, and the club should focus on long-term financial sustainability.

And right now, Real Madrid has been "in the right" far more often—

after all, they won the Treble last season.

Capello's visit wasn't actually about football; it was mostly an expression of goodwill.

Su Hang had always been amicable. With Capello being so proactive, Su Hang naturally kept calling him "boss, boss, boss."

If Simon had been there, he would've been heartbroken.

When Capello left Su Hang's mansion, the weight he'd been carrying finally disappeared.

Su Hang wasn't difficult to work with at all.

So how did Camacho and Luxemburgo end up clashing with him so badly?

It made no sense.

Camacho: "Exactly. As long as everything follows Su Hang's ideas, he's very easy to work with."

Luxemburgo: "It's all an act. Just watch—you'll be fired by him halfway through the season!"

So on the first day of training camp, once everyone gathered, Su Hang had already helped Capello set the tone.

"Van Nistelrooy! Welcome! We've got our goals secured this season—Ronaldo's injuries have been our biggest weak point."

"Emerson! Lucky for us we didn't run into Brazil at the World Cup, or we might've been eliminated by you. Your all-around game is exactly what Real Madrid needs!"

"Diarra, I hope you can strengthen our defense. When I spoke with Mr. Capello earlier, he said he thinks very highly of you."

"Cannavaro! We haven't crossed paths since the season before last. Your form this year was unbelievable—I've never seen Zidane look so helpless!"

"Reyes, with our relationship, I'm not even going to pretend to greet you properly. Just have fun out there…"

After Su Hang delivered his usual round of hyping up his teammates, it was obvious the squad was pleased with him as their leader.

Normally, teams have clear divisions—veterans, superstars, youth academy players.

But Su Hang had blurred all those lines. And with his strong language skills, there wasn't a single teammate he couldn't communicate with.

At the end, Su Hang even made a point of visiting Kompany and Modrić: "Welcome to Real Madrid."

Modrić already knew him from the World Cup: "Hey, Captain Su, thanks. I never imagined I'd actually join Real Madrid. When you told me at the time, I didn't believe you."

Kompany, standing beside them, nearly popped his eyes out.

It was true—

the rumors were actually true!

Modrić really did come to Real Madrid through Su Hang's connections.

He actually had a link to Real Madrid!

Modrić: A link???

"Don't look so shocked." Sergio Ramos nudged Kompany. "You're here because Captain Su fought for you too."

"At the time, Captain Su and Mr. Calderón were slamming the table and arguing back and forth."

"Mr. Calderón wanted Real Madrid to sign a more established Center Back, but Captain Su insisted you were excellent and believed in your future…"

"Sergio Ramos!" Su Hang stepped in to stop him, keeping his contributions hidden.

Kompany was overwhelmed.

Both young newcomers had tears in their eyes.

Then Capello finally arrived.

The entire squad erupted in the warmest welcome—great attitude, unified spirit, looking every bit like an iron army.

Capello was extremely pleased with the atmosphere Su Hang had built.

But during the fitness tests that followed, quite a few players exposed their issues.

Some had overindulged during the summer, others were simply worn down—either way, their condition wasn't great.

But Kompany, Su Hang, and Sergio Ramos all had outstanding physical metrics.

Especially the first two.

Capello then issued a clear demand:

everyone had one week to restore their numbers.

The team then entered full training mode.

After a few days, training settled into a steady rhythm.

But Capello ran into a tactical problem.

His specialty was the 4-3-3.

Real Madrid's current roster, however, wasn't ideal for it.

The main issue was the center-forward position.

Van Nistelrooy was one of the best center-forwards in the world.

Su Hang was the strongest rising center-forward of the year.

Who was supposed to move to the wing?

Raúl could manage it—he could play a wide second-striker role.

Robinho was the best choice at Left Winger.

Seeing Capello's dilemma, Su Hang approached him after training.

"Coach, how about I play on the wing? That'll free up space for Van Nistelrooy."

Capello was delighted: "Ah? But isn't that too unfair to you? Won't that waste your talent?"

Su Hang: "There's no such thing as unfair. It's all for the team. I'll play Left Winger."

"Left Winger?" Capello froze.

Wasn't he supposed to be the Right Winger?

Su Hang on the right, Robinho on the left, Raúl and Cassano as substitutes—

that would've been the perfect setup.

But if Su Hang switched to the left, then Raúl and Robinho would have to compete for the right side.

And since Robinho had always played on the left, moving him to the right might not give him an advantage over Raúl.

Was Su Hang trying to secure a spot for Raúl?

"Yes, Left Winger. Those last few runs you made down the left in the World Cup final were unforgettable."

Capello didn't call out Su Hang's little scheme.

Su Hang saw what Capello was thinking, so he drew a quick sketch on the whiteboard.

"Coach, here's what I'm thinking. If it doesn't work, you can always move me to the right."

"In midfield, Beckham will definitely play Right Midfield. With his style, his overlapping runs down the right will be one of our main auxiliary tactics."

"Raúl's passing and movement are excellent, and he has great chemistry with Beckham. He can give Beckham the best receiving positions."

"Robinho's speed can directly rip apart defenses—perfect for different types of opponents."

Capello studied the whiteboard.

"The weaker right side having two different options based on personnel—that's excellent.

After all, the main attacking flank is usually where the core players are, and it's not ideal to replace them directly."

"If the team needs to adjust, the best substitutions happen on the weaker flank. This arrangement gives us tactical flexibility."

"If Robinho remains the Left Winger as the attacking focal point, suddenly substituting him disrupts the whole team. But keeping him on wastes Raúl's strengths."

"It's definitely more balanced. And if Robinho holds onto the left and keeps delivering outstanding performances, it only heightens internal conflict."
