Chapter 29 - Mammias

Kross stayed awake while the others slept, sitting quietly and listening to the night. Lyra was curled up near Gerald, while Ryan, Axel, and Aaron rested close by.

He couldn't sleep. Lyra's scent was very inviting but he was preventing himself from falling for it. Again he had a lot of things to think about. He just didn't want to normalize having her scent to help him when he wanted peace, sleep.

One day he might just choose to kill her and if that were to happen and his reliance on her was normalized, he knew the worst would happen.

Kross avoided gazing at Lyra the whole night. He didn't know what was wrong with him that he even offered meat for her. Why was he being so observant towards her? He never cared about anyone let alone if they chose to starve to death.

Kross sat as still as the stone itself, his back against the cold rock, his senses stretched. The wind spoke to him, carrying a thousand scents: pine, ice, damp earth. And then, something else. Something wrong.
