Lyra finally woke up after two long days. To be fair, she had already opened her eyes the previous night. It was late, the kind of late where the world outside felt empty and silent. Her body felt heavy, her head a little foggy, but she knew she was awake.
The first thing she noticed was Tessa, curled up and sleeping right beside her. That sight gave Lyra a wave of relief. If she had woken up in that carriage all by herself, she would've panicked for sure. Just the thought of opening her eyes to nothing but shadows and silence made her shiver.
But Tessa was there, breathing softly, her presence filling the space enough to keep the fear away. Lyra lay still for a while, watching her, and for the first time since everything had happened, she didn't feel completely lost. It was like she had gone back to the before time when she had arrived in the packhouse and was sleeping in the same room as her.
It felt nice.
