Chapter 63 - Pile of walking blankets

Lyra leaned back against the carriage seat, her fingers still curled loosely around the now-empty flask of honey water. She sighed, the sound quiet but clear in the stillness.

"I'm hungry," she admitted softly, turning her head toward Tessa.

Tessa had been watching her carefully, every small movement, as though waiting for something like this. Relief flickered across her face before she quickly composed herself. "Then I'll go find something for you to eat," she said, already adjusting her cloak as if preparing to step out.

Lyra shook her head immediately, her pale hair brushing against her cheek. "No. Let's go together."

Tessa blinked, startled. "Outside, it's far too cold. You might get sick again! It is not good for you."

Lyra hesitated, her lips pressing together. But then she straightened her back slightly. "I don't want to stay in here alone."
