Chapter 166 - Chapter 166: An 'Easy' Surgery

Although he had intended to thoroughly dissect all seven Weeping Angels, under the 'persuasion' of Luka and others, Cawl ultimately only performed non-fatal examinations on these seven Astartes who had undergone Primaris conversion surgery.

"Unbelievable, such stable conversion results!" Cawl exclaimed, marveling both at the seven Weeping Angels' excellent adaptation to the Primaris conversion surgery and at the incredibly smooth surgical process.

Due to a lack of sufficient experimental samples, even Belisarius Cawl, the developer of Primaris technology, lacked experience in converting old Space Marines into Primaris Space Marines.

Furthermore, a crucial point was that the three newly added artificial organ implants needed to be implanted during the early stages of the Primaris Space Marine conversion surgery.

For a Space Marine who had already completed the final conversion surgery, the Black Carapace, adding three implants was akin to flaying the entire person, removing their Black Carapace, prying open their already fused rib plates, and then adding new organs to their body.

These three new organs were the Glandular Coil, The Chanting Lobe, and the Belisarius Furnace.

The Glandular Coil is a semi-mechanical construct resembling an earthworm. It is like a cable, yet also like human nerves, actively burrowing into the converted Space Marine's body and ultimately growing together with their muscles, thereby greatly enhancing the Space Marine's strength.

The strength with which Primaris Space Marines can easily crush the ceramite-like bones of old Space Marines is thanks to the Glandular Coil.

The seven Weeping Angels also took some time to adapt to their suddenly increased strength and their now robust physiques.

As for the Belisarius Furnace, this is an implant connected between a Space Marine's two hearts.

Its effect is to cause the Space Marine's bones to develop further, growing from 2.1 meters to 3.04 meters! From a big guy to a super big guy!

But this is not the primary function of the Belisarius Furnace.

Dora Khaur designed this organ primarily to provide Primaris Space Marines with powerful regenerative abilities.

The organ itself stores a special repair factor, which is released all at once when a Primaris Space Marine is mortally threatened, providing the Primaris Space Marine with super-strong physical recovery capabilities.

Space Marines themselves possess the Larraman's Organ for rapid wound recovery; the special cells it produces attach to the Space Marine's white blood cells, allowing for rapid hemostasis, skin repair, and quick scabbing.

With the Belisarius Furnace activated, a Space Marine can even recover from fatal injuries, repairing themselves as if coming back from the dead, much like a certain metallic-skeletoned werewolf whose skin heals as soon as it's cut.

However, this regenerative ability is not continuous; the repair factor that the Belisarius Furnace can store at one time is limited, and once depleted, it must take a long time to replenish.

Moreover, following the law of conservation of matter, rapid regeneration also incurs a cost.

This consumption is a huge drain even for a Space Marine.

And the last organ, The Chanting Lobe, is even derived from the Gene-Seed Primarch's modification technology, although only half of it remains.

Gene-Seed Primarchs relied on this organ to achieve physical strength and brainpower far exceeding that of an Astartes; The Chanting Lobe can achieve similar effects.

It further strengthens the Space Marine's muscles and bones, making them larger, stronger, and more robust, while also promoting the Space Marine's brain enhancement, greatly improving their thought, reaction, and intelligence.

Simply put, The Chanting Lobe will allow Primaris Space Marines to partially possess the strength of a Primarch to a certain extent.

Even if it is only a small part of a Primarch's physical strength and intelligence, it is still the strength of a Primarch.

However, precisely because of this, implanting these three organs into an old Space Marine who has already completed their modifications is an extremely troublesome and unfamiliar task.

No one had ever done it before; even Belisarius Cawl himself had previously focused more on the development and research of Primaris Space Marine technology rather than considering how to perform the surgery.

Without sufficient data support or practical experience, even Belisarius Cawl was not confident that the conversion would succeed.

In fact, at this stage, even Cawl himself did not know exactly how to convert an old Space Marine into a Primaris Space Marine.

But Ovilia, this young apprentice who had only achieved the lowest rank of Sage, performed Primaris conversion surgery on seven gravely wounded and dying Astartes without any experience or preparation!

(Alien Biological Sage, this is the normal style of the Adeptus Mechanicus)

"This is simply incredible! A young apprentice with no experience has managed to successfully complete all seven surgeries, which is utterly preposterous! This is simply the omnissiah manifesting!" Cawl exclaimed again, but then he looked at Ovilia: "I admit I underestimated you, my student! I don't know whether you received the blessing of the omnissiah, or were simply lucky, or something else.

But since you were able to complete the Primaris conversion surgery, I must admit that you are indeed worthy of being my, Belisarius Cawl's, student!"

Cawl's words filled Ovilia with joy.

Although she called herself Cawl's student, she also knew that this master-student relationship was merely a nominal title; otherwise, she would not have been branded a Tech-heretic, stripped of everything, and expelled from the Forge World.

But now, Cawl's words acknowledged Ovilia's worthiness to be his true student, no longer just a nominal one.

"But Master, I truly didn't feel any difficulty at all? Although I haven't performed similar surgeries before, isn't implanting artificial organs into a body a very simple thing?" Ovilia still didn't quite understand why her Master attached such importance to this matter.

Cawl observed Ovilia, and seeing that the expression on her face did not seem feigned, he had to conclude that Ovilia genuinely did not think the Primaris conversion surgery was difficult, and was not just saying so deliberately.

This caused Cawl to emit a sharp burst of static once more, even feeling a sense of logical breakdown.

He truly had not expected his student to genuinely believe that the Primaris conversion surgery had no difficulty.

So, the problem isn't these data and these seven Astartes, but his own student?

Cawl couldn't help but scrutinize Ovilia, thinking that he should perhaps keep her by his side and observe her for a period, to see if this student possessed any undiscovered talents.

Or perhaps it was the effect of that peculiar implant from before.

While Cawl was pondering these things, Luka spoke up: "Great Sage, do you know about the prophecy of the Gene-Seed Primarch's return?"

"The Gene-Seed Primarch's return? What prophecy is that?" Cawl didn't understand why Luka would suddenly ask this, but his heart became highly vigilant.

Because the two tasks Roboute Guilliman entrusted to him back then were, firstly, the development of Primaris Space Marines, and secondly, something related to the Gene-Seed Primarch's return.
