Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Dimensional Library and the Blonde Girl

It was another early morning.

As usual, Zhu Ziyang got up at six.

As usual, he woke up his childhood friend and ran laps around the village to train his body.

As usual, he returned home at seven for breakfast.

As usual, he began reading at eight.

Back in his room, Zhu Ziyang sat at his desk. Placing his hands on the table, the book that had disappeared under last night's starlight reappeared in his hands. He reacted as if this were nothing out of the ordinary.

This was the Dimensional Library.

According to what he remembered from his past life, this was his "golden finger" — a super library bound to his soul, containing no fewer than five hundred thousand books.

Because this library was bound to his soul, any book within it would appear in his hands at the mere thought of it. For someone who loved reading like Zhu Ziyang, this was a gift from heaven.

As for the library's origins, he didn't know. It had suddenly appeared when he was three years old — the same time he began practicing the Lesser Light Breathing Method.

At first, Zhu Ziyang thought the library, like his innate wisdom, was a relic from his previous life. But that assumption changed once he started reading the books inside. The true origin of this super library was clearly something far beyond that.

The library contained all the written knowledge accumulated on the Douluo Continent over tens of thousands of years — since the invention of writing itself. Some books were popular mainland pamphlets. Others were rare and obscure volumes once locked away in the vaults of noble families. Still others were forbidden and long-lost texts that had never been seen by the world.

It could be said that every scroll from every archive, library, and hidden repository on the continent had been copied here. No other building in the world could rival the collection inside this library.

The book he was currently reading, On the Impact of Soul Ring Quality on a Soul Master's Development, was one such forbidden and lost text. The author was a man from the Star Luo Empire five thousand years ago. Shortly after completing the book, he was murdered and the manuscript was burned — it never got the chance to spread across the continent. And yet, here it was, resting in his hands.

There were many books like this, leading Zhu Ziyang to a single conclusion:

Such a massive undertaking could never have been accomplished by mere humans. It felt more like what one book from the Church Era once called "a gift from the world." Zhu Ziyang wholeheartedly agreed with that idea.

Given his family background, he would never have had access to such vast knowledge without this library. That was why he treasured the books it contained so deeply. From the age of three to now, at age six, he had already read over a thousand books.

Zhu Ziyang truly loved to read, because books gave him knowledge — and knowledge was the most precious thing of all. Whether influenced by memories of his past life or by his parents' attitude in this one, he firmly believed in the power of knowledge.

In his view, everything in the world had pros and cons. Only reading was pure benefit with no downside.

Even if he never became a Soul Master, he believed he could live well on the continent using the knowledge from the library alone.

Of course, that didn't mean selling books. Any book from the library would automatically return after being away from his hands for more than thirty seconds.

What he relied on was the knowledge within them — like using Martial Soul research to help others plan their development paths, or advising people on soul ring selection with his vast understanding of soul beasts.

Both services were in high demand among Soul Masters.

Having read thousands of volumes, Zhu Ziyang was already one of the most knowledgeable people on the continent. Even without soul power, he had no doubt he could survive just fine.

Of course, not becoming a Soul Master was only the worst-case scenario.

According to the theory of bloodline inheritance, with both his parents being Soul Masters, he was almost guaranteed to become one too — unless his Martial Soul underwent some kind of negative mutation.

As usual, Zhu Ziyang planned to read until ten in the morning.

But today was different. It wasn't even nine when someone interrupted him.

"Brother Ziyang, you're still reading? Uncle Changhe already has the carriage ready! We're leaving soon!"

A crisp voice rang in his ears. A delicate, sweet-smiling young girl appeared in his room. She wore plain clothes, but her cuteness was impossible to hide. Her long golden hair was tied into two braids that hung in front of her chest. Her large pink eyes were bright and pure. Her little white hands, soft and chubby like lotus roots, were clasped in front of her. Innocent and adorable, she was instantly lovable.

She was Jiang Nannan, Zhu Ziyang's childhood friend.

He had known her since he was two. It had been four years now. As the most beloved girl in the village, he was naturally happy to have her as a playmate. She clung to him like a real brother, and the bond between them ran deep.

Of course, Zhu Ziyang wasn't satisfied with just being her "brother." He wanted to be her… boyfriend.

Ahem... Perhaps being born with awakened wisdom wasn't entirely a blessing — it always seemed to fill his head with odd ideas.

Jiang Nannan was half a month younger than Zhu Ziyang. Today, she was also about to awaken her Martial Soul, and her excitement was written all over her face.

"Alright! Let's go."

Zhu Ziyang closed the book, stood up, walked to her side, and gently patted her head.

"Hee hee~ Brother, how are you not excited at all? We're about to awaken our Martial Souls!" Her eyes were fixed on him, her fair little face flushed with joy.

"Excited? Of course I'm excited. I'm just keeping it inside. That's called not showing joy or anger on the surface."

He took her hand and walked with her toward the door.

"Ohhh~"

She nodded as if she half-understood, but that didn't stop her from being happy. She didn't mind at all that he held her hand. In fact, she had long been used to his presence. If he hadn't grabbed her hand, she would've grabbed his instead.

In her heart, Zhu Ziyang had long been the person closest to her.

When Jiang Nannan was four, her father went missing during a mountain patrol with the city guards. He was separated from the group and, in a twist of bad luck, encountered an 800-year-old soul beast. By the time the others found him, his one-ring cultivation wasn't enough to keep him alive. Though the soul beast was killed, Jiang Nannan's father also died.

From that day on, she and her frail mother had relied on each other for survival. Though they received some compensation from the City Lord's mansion, the loss of their household's pillar made life very difficult. In such a remote town, having no labor force could spell the end for a family.

It was from that point on that Jiang Nannan began relying even more on Zhu Ziyang. Lacking a father's love, she had no resistance to his brotherly care and kindness.
