Chapter 2 - chapter 2

"Didn't notice the uniform?Congratulations, you've been hired as a maid" Lucy said while Jemma stared in disbelief.

"Show her around and put her through all the rules" Mandy instructed Lucy.

For the next hour Jemma was shown round the house and given strict instructions by Lucy, most of the instructions were what she should do and what she shouldn't do, the most important instructions were;

• You should not look Xavier in the eyes when talking to him

• You address him as Don

•You should speak only when spoken to

• Xavier's room, office and library are off limits you can only enter when he gives permission.

Jemma was led to a room at the servants quaters which was now her room, she would start working for him in the morning. Lucy introduced her to the rest of the maids, they were over fifteen and some had been serving Xavier for over 5 years which shattered Jemma's hope of ever escaping.

She went over to the window and stared out of the window. The servants quaters still looked divine.

"I never got your name" Lucy said going over to stand beside Jemma but Jemma was lost in thought. Lucy placed her hand on Jemma's shoulder snapping Jemma out of her trance.

"Huh?"

"Your name" Lucy asked

"Jemma" Jemma informed

"It's not as bad as it seems, think of it like you're on a vacation, for the rest of your life" Lucy said smiling and Jemma turned back to the window.

"A vacation? Psychotic"

"Well being here is so much better for me. I have my peace of mind, it was so much worse before I got sold"

"Sold?"

"Not literally, my dad used me to pay for his debt" Lucy explained and Jemma gave her an apologetic look. "No it's fine, he was a druggie and he was really abusive. Hewanted to marry me off to a drug dealer. Now that I think of it, it was definitely for free drugs" Lucy said and Jemma smiled slightly.

"I'm sorry"

"But now I'm here, all I have to do is work and not get on Don's nerve or it's off with my head, literally"

"You think this is better?"

"It definitely is, Don's barely around and even when he's around I can get a good look at him, he's so hot" Lucy said and Jemma gave a disgusted face. "So, how did you end up here?" Lucy asked and Jemma was quiet, she began to tear up.

"He killed my father and he decided to bring me here" Jemma replied tears rolling down her cheeks. Lucy gave her a hug.

"I'm sorry" she said.

"I can't stay here, I can't stand the sight of him" Jemma said

"I wish I could tell you something apart from you should just accept your fate" Lucy said "Do one thing, take a bath. Mandy's arranging for your clothes. You'll get your uniform later" Lucy said before pulling away and leaving.

2 weeks passed quickly, Xavier hadn't come to the house ever since. He traveled for some work. Jemma had slowly adjusted to her new role and her duties. Xavier came back into town and Jemma was instructed to stay away from everywhere he could be. She was asked to go to the servants quaters by 11pm as that was around the time Xavier came home. Mandy didn't want her and Xavier meeting because Jemma hadn't gotten used to all the rules and a single mistake could cost Jemma her life. This worked for only two days.

On the third day, it was only 9;45 when Xavier walked in and he was pissed. Everybody immediately stopped as they spotted him and lowered their heads to avoid any eye contact with him. Xavier walked through the living room to the staircase, he had taken few steps up when he met Jemma, she stopped in front of him, her blood boiling.

'No Jemma, you're not dying today. Behave' she told herself. She stepped aside making way for him. Xavier stared at her, that same piercing and intimidating gaze. He had forgotten about her completely. Jemma immediately remembered and lowered her gaze.

"Get a bottle of whiskey to my room immediately" he instructed before walking past her.

Jemma wasn't sure she could do this, she would mess up and end up dead. She went to look for Lucy and found Lucy in the dining room. She went over to her

"I need your help Lucy" Jemma said

"What do you need?"

"I need you to take a bottle of whiskey to Don"

"I'm sorry Jemma, I would love to help but I can tell Don's not in a good mood right now. He might have both our heads if you don't take it to him" Lucy explained. "I'll help you get a bottle of whiskey" Lucy informed before leaving. She came back quickly with a tray containing a bottle of whiskey and a glass cup and Jemma took it.

"Remember, don't look him in the eyes, address him as Don, don't even think about raising your voice and don't speak if he doesn't ask you a question and wait for his permission before leaving. So basically, knock, wait for his instruction, enter, drop the tray then stand there quietly until he tells you to leave" Lucy said

"Okay" Jemma agreed

"One last thing, bury all your anger towards him or you'll be buried with all your anger" Lucy warned and Jemma left.

Jemma went through all Lucy had told her as she found her way to his room and knocked gently on the door but there was no response. She knocked over and over again but no response. She decided, she couldn't wait at the door. He did say to get the bottle of whiskey to his room. She opened the door a little and peeked inside to see there was no one inside. She entered and closed the door gently.

There were three sofas all surrounding a centre table and facing a huge TV stand. The walls of the room was painted black, with subtle panel detailing adding texture. A king sized bed with a black leather headboard was placed the back wall with gray pillows sat about 10 feet away from the sofas. Two black nightstands were present, one on each side of the bed, each had a black table lamp that emits a warm yellow light. The floors were covered with polished black marble featuring white veining, which reflected the yellow light. His room had a cosy feel to it. Jemma dropped the tray on the table, she had to leave before Xavier came into the room. She dropped the tray on the table and walked towards the door. She was about to open the door when someone spoke, it was Xavier.

"Did I say you could leave?" he asked and Jemma slowly turned around. She looked in the direction his voice came from, there was a balcony there and she didn't notice. She only looked forward when she entered. She lowered her head slowly as Xavier walked towards her.
