Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: On the Enhancement Effect of Hamon on Stone Skipping

The next morning, Miyauchi Hikage, full of energy, went alone to the mountain behind his house to find a place to experiment with his Hamon abilities.

When he watched anime in his past life, Miyauchi Hikage knew that the Miyauchi family owned mountains. It was only after transmigrating that he learned that yes, they had mountains, and more than one, but in this kind of rural place, there was simply no energy or manpower to develop these barren hills.

Back then, Miyauchi Hikage had thought it was a pity that the back mountain was just sitting there, with no one managing it, which was why he thought of shooting rustic videos to earn some money to develop the barren mountain.

Now, three years had passed, and a large patch of pear trees had been planted on the once-desolate back mountain.

These pear trees were a cooperative project with the JA Group. From the initial selection of seeds to the subsequent pest control, everything was managed by the agricultural cooperative. After the fruits ripened, he could just stick the "Asahigaoka Pear" label on them and wait to split the money.

Similarly, there were the newly established breeding farms and fisheries in Asahigaoka. These were all set up with money and manpower from the agricultural cooperative. Anyway, relying on the fame of Asahigaoka as an "internet celebrity village," at least for the next few years, there would certainly be no worry about the sales of these products.

Although Miyauchi Hikage knew that the JA Group would take at least seventy percent of the profits from the value he had single-handedly built up in Asahigaoka, for a super-organization that basically monopolized the Japanese agricultural market, them being willing to leave you thirty percent was already giving you a lot of face—looking at the whole of Japan, who knows how many people were green with envy over this thirty percent.

Bypassing these pear trees managed by the agricultural cooperative, Miyauchi Hikage naturally wouldn't use his powers to promote their growth. That would be too conspicuous.

He walked to the other side of the back mountain, where there were a dozen crookedly planted fruit trees of various types.

There weren't many, but they were all fruit trees that were four or five years old. They were planted when Miyauchi Hikage was bored at the age of ten, when he had incited the students of the Asahigaoka branch school at the time to come and plant them together.

Although it was just for fun, the kids from every household were impassioned by the grand promise Miyauchi Hikage had painted at the time: "As long as we can grow them, we'll have an endless supply of fruit to eat in the future."

For those few days, the families with children in the village were frantically eating all kinds of fruits, getting the seeds of more than ten types of fruit. Then they dug over a hundred pits and worked for several days before planting them all.

The germination rate of this farcical tree-planting activity was naturally touchingly low. In the end, only these dozen or so trees had managed to survive tenaciously until now.

The quality of the fruit they bore was also hard to describe in one word. They were the kind of defective products of modern agriculture that even the neighbor's dog would shake its head at after eating.

The village kids had even held a celebration when the first batch of fruit trees bore fruit, and after that, there was no after that.

Now, apart from the tattered wooden signs hanging on the fruit trees that could tell you the identity of the planters, you couldn't tell at all that these were artificially planted fruit trees.

However, this kind of neglected place was exactly what Miyauchi Hikage wanted.

He found the peach and plum trees he had planted. The small peach tree was now in its flowering season, while the plum tree's flowering season was later, and now only a few small flower buds could be seen.

Miyauchi Hikage glanced around, and after confirming that no one was there, he placed his hand on the trunk of the plum tree.

As the ripple energy was carefully transmitted from his palm to the trunk of the plum tree, and then all the way up to the branches, a magical scene immediately appeared before Miyauchi Hikage's eyes.

The plum tree, which was originally supposed to enter its flowering season in half a month, bloomed with beautiful white plum blossoms in a short period of time.

The growth-promoting effect of ripple energy on plants seemed quite obvious. If Miyauchi Hikage could stimulate one unit of ripple energy with one breath, then he only needed 0.5 units of ripple energy to make this underdeveloped plum tree bloom early.

After stuffing another unit of ripple energy into it, the congenital deficiencies of this plum tree were basically compensated for. Now, anyone who passed by and saw this plum tree could see its vigorous vitality.

However, after flowering, it needed to be pollinated to bear fruit.

Although Hamon had many functions, helping a flower pollinate was indeed a bit beyond its scope.

The self-pollination rate of plum trees is low. Miyauchi Hikage tried again and found that after replenishing the plum tree's nutrients, continuing to input ripple energy did not result in fruit, but instead caused the ripple energy to gather at the roots and then overflow into the soil and be wasted.

"After the fruit trees have been pollinated, it should still be possible to use the ripple to promote the growth of the fruit. I hope that under the effect of the ripple energy, the fruit will become a bit tastier."

After realizing this, Miyauchi Hikage's test of the growth-promoting effect of ripple energy on plants was considered complete.

He transmitted one unit of ripple energy to each of the other fruit trees in turn, and then prepared to wait for his return during the summer vacation this year to taste the ripple fruits.

After that, he briefly tested the other uses of ripple energy.

Because of the buff from the Pure-Yang Body to Hamon, he could easily light branches with the Scarlet Overdrive;

The Turquoise Blue Overdrive could form a ripple net with extremely strong tension under his feet, allowing him to run easily on the water's surface. With a little more research, it shouldn't be a problem to run on walls like in Naruto;

The Sendō Ripple, which was good at conduction, was shown in the original work to be able to hit a cow through a mountain. But in his hands, the "mountain" in the middle was directly omitted. The powerful ripple could be directly transmitted through the air to attack a target two meters away;

As for the most powerful Sunlight Yellow Overdrive, Miyauchi Hikage hadn't tested its upper limit yet. Anyway, with one punch, a rock the size of a human head felt no different from tofu to him. He estimated he would have to find some thick steel plates to test it out.

"In a wuxia novel, this would at least be a Xiantian master, right? And I even come with a 1000% damage bonus against evil spirits," Miyauchi Hikage, with his new toy, tirelessly tried out all sorts of new tricks.

When he saw a stone, he had to stuff some ripple energy into it and then use it to skip stones, to see how much the ripple energy improved the number of skips and distance.

It wasn't until it was almost time for lunch that Miyauchi Hikage returned home, still not having had quite enough.

His spirited appearance was so obvious that even the thick-nerved Miyauchi Hikari could sense her younger brother's happiness.

As for Miyauchi Renge, who was about to start elementary school, she went straight up to him, stared with her big, watery eyes, and asked in her unique childish voice where her older brother had been all morning.

Paired with Miyauchi Renge's naturally flat tone, Miyauchi Hikage just smiled and picked up his little sister.

Yesterday he had slept until noon, and in the afternoon, besides thinking about what to write in his diary, he also had to ponder how to control his Pure-Yang Body, so he didn't get to play with her much. Today, he didn't have to worry about these things.

"Brother has discovered something super amazing. How about brother takes you to the river to play this afternoon?"

He planned to let his little sister witness the power of his ripple secret technique: the art of stone skipping, in the afternoon.

Miyauchi Hikage was prepared to write the cultivation method for Hamon in his diary to pass on to others, so naturally, he wouldn't be secretive with his own family. He was never the type to eat alone.

Anyway, for ordinary people, Hamon was just a health-preserving technique. The step of just guiding the ripple energy out of the body was already enough for them to practice for several years.

After a few years, with his diary cheat, he probably wouldn't need to hide anymore.

"The only problem is..." Miyauchi Hikage looked at his sometimes casual, sometimes show-offy older sister, Miyauchi Hikari.

She was going to school with him in Tokyo.

If she accidentally used Hamon outside and was noticed by someone, then his existence might be exposed.

From what he knew of Miyauchi Hikari, this probability was really not low.

So I'll just have to wrong you for now, Hikari. Anyway, you're still young. It won't affect you to start cultivating a couple of years later. At worst, I'll find some other good things that aren't so easily exposed to compensate you with in the future.
