Hu Yan's heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was shaking his whole chest. He had been staring at the cave wall with all the willpower he had… until that soft voice finally came from behind him.
"Hu Yan… I'm done. You can look. You can take the wooden tub out."
A shiver went straight down his spine.
He didn't even breathe as he turned.
"Yes…yes," he blurted automatically.
And then he froze.
Su Qinglan stood there wrapped in the simple, thin, strange hide she always used after bathing. The fabric clung to her damp skin, outlining every soft curve. Her hair, dripping wet, slid down her bare shoulder. Water glistened there, trailing slowly down her collarbone and disappearing into the towel wrapped around her.
Hu Yan swallowed hard. His entire face flushed red in an instant.
He couldn't stop staring.
Su Qinglan noticed. Her cheeks flamed. She gave him a quick, flustered glance over her shoulder.
"What are you looking at?" she whispered, voice trembling just a little.
