Chapter 27 - Chapter 26: The Mouse And The Coming Storm

On the open-air terrace of the Supreme Hotel, one of the best hotels in the world, the wide terrace was incredibly luxurious, with a swimming pool and garden views.

Leon stood at the edge of the terrace, overlooking the bustling city-state. People could be seen coming and going on the streets at night. Compared to the previous stark polarization of wealth and poverty, a sense of well-being was evident in the smiles on people's faces. The people in the downtown area were especially busy.

Meanwhile, a landmark building representing Leon—a temple for the people of Madripoor—was being constructed. The streets and alleys were also bustling with the construction and development of related buildings.

Leon stood there in a fine plaid shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers, his black hair gently swaying in the night breeze.

The crisp sound of high heels echoed from behind him.

"My dear master, are you inspecting your kingdom?"

"I'm looking at their smiles," Leon said calmly. He liked fairness, as did most people in the world. His brand of fairness was simple: he gave them a peaceful environment, jobs, an income, and enough food and drink, and in return, he required their faith. The so-called "responsibility" was just an incidental part of this fairness.

"I took care of a troublesome matter for you today. May I receive the reward I deserve?" Ophelia stood one step behind Leon, her voice extremely charming. With her serpent-like, alluring figure, she could easily ensnare most men in the world in her gentle trap.

"What do you want?" Leon did not turn around.

"Don't abandon me. I've witnessed that crazy world, and I want to be a part of it." Ophelia's expression became very serious. She had once glimpsed the tip of the iceberg of an ancient god's power and signed a contract for her own life and appearance. As an ambitious woman, she had always wanted powerful abilities. Had she never thought of it? No, she had tried to explore, but the world was cruel. Many things couldn't be obtained through hard work alone.

A billionaire could spend countless money and years setting up a laboratory to crack the secrets of the human body and prolong life, but a poor person might get what those rich people wanted by accident. Ophelia was the same.

But now, it was different. The man in front of her had given her an opportunity. His strength, his mystery, everything about him was unimaginable. She still had a contract with a powerful and ancient evil god. If she broke the agreement, everything she had—her appearance, her life—would be taken back. She couldn't allow that to happen.

She had gone to find Logan not only to offer advice as a friend but also to show this man her complete submission.

"Your courage is amazing, Ophelia." Leon was a little surprised. This woman was exceptionally intelligent and had a very decisive mind. When she was sure of something, she would make a choice without reservation.

"I trust the choices of my heart. Every time it has guided me, I have never been wrong," Ophelia said, pushing her hair away from her temples. She was a woman blessed by the goddess of luck. Because of her luck, she had escaped death countless times and turned danger into safety.

This time would be no exception. "Then respect the choice of your heart and keep moving forward."

Ophelia's lips curled up, and then she said abruptly, "Many people are now eyeing Madripoor, my dear master."

Madripoor was now the focus of the entire world. It was no surprise that small countries had taken action. Some large countries had also acted, trying to send spies and agents into Madripoor as soon as the airport and docks reopened. Many people were even investing in certain companies as a front for their secret operations.

It was clear that while Madripoor might seem calm on the surface due to Leon's presence, chaos was brewing underneath. Driven by human arrogance, many aircraft carrier fleets were already cruising in the waters around the port of Madripoor under various pretexts. It was a test and a provocation. There were definitely corporate tycoons here, and countless other forces operating in secret.

Leon's expression was calm. He had anticipated this day when he first planned for Madripoor. He sneered, "Just a bunch of rats hiding in the sewers."

"Cool," Ophelia said, crossing her arms. She had understood the meaning behind the man's tone. In a trance, she seemed to see a bloody storm on the horizon.

Soon after, the port of Madripoor reopened its docks and airport, but one "accident" after another followed. The flow of merchant ships and goods to the docks was severely restricted by surrounding countries, with support from certain powerful individuals behind the scenes. The prices of purchased materials were also controlled or even banned from being sold. These overt and covert controls were all carried out under false pretenses. Direct military threats were too risky, so they chose to use methods that were not visible on the surface.

However, Leon's reaction would exceed everyone's imagination.

At the same time, some smart people were beginning to see a terrible crisis spreading. One such person was the leader of the Mutants and the world's strongest telepath, Professor X.

In the mansion in West Chester, New York, now the headmaster's office of the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, the bald principal, wearing a suit and looking a little older, sat in a wheelchair. His gentle expression had become serious and solemn. Looking at the X-Men in front of him, he said gravely, "An unforeseen storm is about to hit."
