Chapter 97 - Chapter 97: Asgardians, You Broke Your Promise

However, a colorful pillar of light fell from the sky, and Thor and Loki, leading a large army, appeared, confronting Lauf's frost army in the ice field amidst the wind and snow.

Facing the countless tall, muscular, and fierce Jotunheim giants, the Asgardian warriors showed no fear and once again displayed their courage under the leadership of Thor and Loki.

They weren't afraid of the powerful God of Fear, the Great Serpent, so why would they fear the Jotunheim giants, whom they had already defeated once?

In the canyon's ice field, a cold current raged, and the bitter snow fell like blades.

Beneath the heavy snow, Lauf stood at the forefront of the Jotunheim giant army, looking at the brothers, Thor and Loki, who were only about a kilometer away.

When his eyes swept over Loki, there was a strange look in them, but it soon disappeared.

"You have violated the contract you made, Asgardians."

Lauf's deep voice echoed in the ice canyon like a faint, cold wind, piercing the heart.

"Asgardians will never break their promises!" Thor's loud voice, like hot thunder, swept through the cave, expelling the cold.

He held Mjolnir in his hand, and the red cloak behind him, as bright as blood, fluttered in the wind.

"The great serpent, Cul, the former ruler of Asgard, the God King—he brought his messenger into Jotunheim, killed our innocent giants, and destroyed our homes. But you did not keep your promise to send troops to protect Jotunheim and its giants.

Asgardians, you must pay the price for this!" Lauf's fiery, red eyes made him appear righteous.

A war might not need a reason, but it was better to have a justifiable cause than none at all. This opportunity was too good to pass up.

Thor fell silent. No matter what the great serpent was like, he did have the blood of the Odinson family flowing in his body and was an Asgardian.

Seeing that Thor couldn't answer, Loki spoke up, holding a spear also made by the dwarves. "The great serpent abandoned Asgard and fell into evil.

He had long been spurned by the Odinson family and was stripped of his royal status.

Odin led the gods to defeat him and killed him."

"We did break our promise, but he also paid a price. We are willing to mourn for the dead, but we can avoid more tragedies, Lord Lauf."

Loki's words were sincere, but Lauf had a fundamental purpose and was not listening.

He raised a stick covered in ice spikes, pointed it at Thor and Loki, and said angrily, "You broke your promise and watched the giants being slaughtered. Asgardians, your cowardice can no longer protect Jotunheim or rule the Nine Realms. You have lost your qualifications."

Loki tried to speak, but Thor stopped him with a raised hand.

He stared at Lauf, his eyes flashing with infinite lightning. "Lauf, no matter how high-sounding your words are, they are just for your ambition. Asgard is never afraid of war. If you want war, then war it is."

Boom!

Terrifying thunder exploded in the sky, and the heavy clouds turned into a vortex, rolling up the heavy snow. A storm was brewing.

The murderous atmosphere swept across the entire ice canyon.

"Asgard is never afraid of war!"

Countless Asgardian warriors raised their weapons and shouted in unison. The terrifying sound waves shook the earth and even shattered the falling snow.

Roar!

The Jotunheim giants were also not afraid, opening their hideous, bloody mouths and roaring violently.

Loki did not try to persuade them.

If Lauf hadn't shown any rebellious behavior, Thor's attitude toward the war would have been questioned by Odin. But Lauf's undisguised ambition had already proven his intentions.

"Okay, then war."

Loki grinned.

As Thor and Lauf raised their arms, the two huge armies immediately rushed toward each other and soon began to fight.

After being severely injured by Odin and being in a weakened state, Lauf had recovered a lot in the following countless years, but he still could not return to his peak.

Fortunately, this was Jotunheim, the most comfortable environment for the giants, and Lauf and his army could exert even more powerful strength here.

Thor and Loki's strength had increased after experiencing the Great Serpent Fear War, but facing Lauf, who was once able to fight against Odin, they still seemed a little powerless.

The tragic war continued, and countless Jotunheim giants and Asgardian warriors died every second.

Later, under the report of Heimdall, Sif, the three warriors of Asgard, and the gods joined the war, which escalated it and made it even more tragic.

The war finally ended in victory for Asgard.

Originally, Odin was unwilling to start a war and advocated for peace after he got old, but that didn't mean someone could openly attack Asgard. Would Asgard tolerate that? Odin would not tolerate it either.

If Odin could tolerate it, it would be a huge blow to Asgard's prestige.

The fundamental reason why Asgard could truly dominate the Nine Realms was its unparalleled power and terrible military strength.

Odin's method of conquering the Nine Realms was to beat them into submission. Whoever refused to submit would have their head chopped off, leaving behind a bunch of those who surrendered.

He would only pretend to show mercy after he had conquered them and they had no power.

The Great Serpent incident brought tragic casualties to Asgard and also shook Asgard's rule. Thor and Loki, with Odin's permission, ruthlessly suppressed the rebellions in various countries.

The same was true for Jotunheim.

No matter how heavy the casualties, as long as Lauf chose to go to war, Asgard would definitely suppress it at all costs.

After the fight, Lauf was numb. He originally thought that Asgard would suffer heavy losses, but he didn't expect Asgard to still be so strong.

Even Odin himself did not show up. Thor, Loki, and the gods surrounded him, making Lauf very uncomfortable.

In the end, Lauf and the Jotunheim giants were defeated and surrendered. Fortunately, because Asgard had indeed betrayed the original contract and promise, they did not kill Lauf after his surrender, but ordered him and the Jotunheim giants to never leave their realm.

"Odin..."

Looking at Thor, Loki, and the others who were picking up the corpses and leaving, the defeated Lauf stood among the bodies of the Jotunheim giants and smiled strangely.
