Chapter 111 - Chapter 110: The Unlucky President

"Damn it, what on earth do those guys want to do?"

In the presidential villa in New York, the current president was furious in the conference room, wearing a sweater, and slapped the table with an angry palm.

He was surrounded by think tanks that he depended on, as well as the middle forces in the interest groups and political parties.

"Are they going to go to war with us completely?"

The current president was a middle-aged white man. After the previous president was held responsible for the Malacca Strait incident and was eventually forced to step down, he took office and "worked diligently" and "behaved."

He boosted the domestic economy and exported wars abroad to shift his focus. He originally thought that the influence left by the previous unlucky president would be eliminated. He didn't expect that such a big event would suddenly pop up now.

In just two or three days, hundreds of influential people, whether they were rich, tycoons, or military and political people, died in an extremely miserable way.

The tragic death scenes and the fragmented bodies showed what kind of torture they had suffered before death. A large part of these dead people came from the United States, of course.

The impact and panic caused by this had spread rapidly throughout the United States and its allied countries. Although public opinion was quickly suppressed and not many civilians knew about it, those powerful forces got the news.

Their panic caused the huge turmoil today.

For those in power, no matter how many civilians died, the impact would be great, but as long as the operation was appropriate, most of the people could be in an information cocoon and not get any news at all.

It was also easy to eliminate the remaining people who knew the truth.

To put it bluntly, no matter how many people in the lower class died, it would not shake the foundation of the rule. However, the death of those upper-class elites in an abnormal way was enough to stir up waves, not to mention that some of them were squids.

These squids had developed very rapidly in recent years, after the development of the times, and their influence had spread rapidly throughout the world.

They could be found in all aspects of US politics and even at the top level.

These people were also very united. As president, he had been under pressure from many aspects.

Everyone knew who was behind these deaths because those guys had no intention of hiding but came and went openly.

"Mr. President, this is a warning and a war that may be triggered," a slightly bald middle-aged man in a white suit pushed his glasses up and said in a deep voice.

"Fuck, I know it, but how we should solve it is the most critical issue. I don't want to be the last unlucky guy and become a victim of this turmoil."

The president cursed angrily, then sat down in his chair weakly, rubbed his eyebrows, and his face was full of fatigue.

The think tank members sat at the conference table, flipping through the documents in their hands. Another female member of the think tank had a flicker in her eyes.

"Mr. President, I need to remind you that if this war breaks out, our chances of winning are probably not very high."

"Stina, are you kidding? We are the most powerful country in the world, with the most powerful navy, army, and air force. We are just a bunch of Mutants," one of the white men with a resolute face retorted, seeming to be a little unhappy with what she said.

"Mr. Paul, although this is true, please don't underestimate these Mutants, otherwise, we wouldn't be so afraid of them and couldn't kill them all, right?"

Stina didn't get angry after being refuted but calmly stated the facts. "Don't forget, aren't we afraid of the two most powerful Mutant leaders: Magneto and Professor X?"

"The power of the strongest telepathist and the one who can manipulate magnetism... can anyone in our ranks resist the lethality and destructive power of those two?"

"In our top-secret data, during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, Magneto controlled hundreds of missiles and artillery shells launched at them, and in 1963, he assassinated then-President Kennedy. How much damage has the Brotherhood led by Magneto caused over the years?"

"Didn't we send troops? Of course, but there's no way to deal with him. Many times, it was with the help of Professor X and the X-Men that Magneto's conspiracies and sabotage were thwarted."

"Now, while facing Magneto and his Brotherhood, the world's strongest telepathist, Professor X, and the X-Men have also joined in."

"Ladies and gentlemen, the leaders of the two Mutant groups have united."

"They don't have a strong army or weapons, but their abilities are enough to kill anyone and even destroy ten countries easily."

Stina's words made everyone in the conference room fall silent.

These facts were in front of them.

It was still true that they thought the United States was the strongest country, but there were monsters on this planet that could destroy the strongest country.

Not to mention Madripoor Port, these two Mutant leaders were already a strong enough threat.

Start a war? How many people would they lose? If they only lost soldiers and money, they were not afraid at all, and they were not afraid of killing civilians.

What they were afraid of was those invisible killing methods, which would kill them, too.

This was the most terrifying.

Magneto controlled magnetic force, and any missiles and bullets fired were ineffective.

Instead, they would be manipulated and thrown back at the United States.

Professor X, the strongest telepathist, had a powerful and pervasive mental power that could invade their mental world and tamper with their memories.

If even their senior staff were invaded and had their consciousness tampered with, then they were done for.

It could be said that the chance of victory in this war had already failed.

This terrible ability made everyone gasp in surprise.

Damn, if that damn old man was more sinister and decisive and quietly tampered with the thoughts and memories of the most powerful and influential people in the United States, then Professor X could rule the United States.

And then spread these methods to the whole world.

Just thinking about it made their backs cold.

It was a good thing it was Professor X. If it were a bunch of ambitious people like them, they wouldn't care about any rules and regulations.

Fortunately, the old guy was stubborn and stupid enough, otherwise the world might have changed its master long ago. Everyone, including the president, muttered secretly.

They also expressed envy and contempt for Professor X.

What a waste of such a powerful ability.

"Ahem... Okay." Fortunately, the president reacted quickly, interrupting everyone's associations with a dry cough, and praised Stina from the think tank, "Thank you, Ms. Stina, you did a good job and you're right."

"We should be vigilant enough and should not underestimate those Mutants."

"But now, we need to solve the current crisis."

"Tell me what you think."

"Mr. President, according to our investigation, the Mutants killing the Deadmen were all related to some human experiments. They were either the ones who hosted the experiments or provided the financial sponsorship. They were caught in the massive Mutant experiment, so they ushered in the revenge of the Mutants."

"From the scene of death, their death should be exactly the same as those of the Mutants in the experiment."

"This is revenge."

A think tank member said in a deep voice.

"What a bunch of stupid idiots." The president covered his forehead with a helpless look. Although he had known that these people had no bottom line, knowing the source of the matter still made him feel a little unbelievable.

Could a bunch of idiots be more cruel?

But thinking about the history of the squids, he could only laugh. It was better to expect pigs to talk than to expect these people to have some humanity.

"So now we are all paying for the bloodshed committed by those guys?" An old white man, a congressman in the interest group, said dissatisfied. He didn't know about this matter yet. It turned out that such a fool was seeking death himself, and now they were implicated.

You know, if this matter was not handled well, the president they had invested huge costs to support would also step down at the speed of light, and their efforts would be completely wasted.

"Mr. President, do you know the Strategic Defense Attack and Logistics Support Agency?" Stina suddenly said, attracting everyone's attention.

The president was a little surprised and nodded after thinking for a while. "I remember it seems to be a top-secret department."

"Before, it submitted a plan bill to the World Security Council, and it was passed."

"Congress has to approve a large amount of funds every year, which also caused dissatisfaction in the military."

"Damn, this name is really long," the president complained.

Stina's mouth curled up, as if she was laughing, but it only took a moment for her to become serious. "Not long ago, they seemed to have shortened their name, and now it should be called S.H.I.E.L.D."

"A very smart decision, so Stina, what does this department have to do with what we are talking about now?" The president was a little confused.

"Mr. President, S.H.I.E.L.D was established during World War II."

"Its purpose is to combat supernatural events and monitor some dangerous things and people."

"According to some information I found, S.H.I.E.L.D is very good at intelligence."

"I think we should meet this S.H.I.E.L.D Director."

"In this crisis, I think he should be able to give us some help," Stina said seriously.

The president pondered. The interest groups didn't care about that as long as they could quickly resolve this crisis.

So they all expressed their agreement. "Okay, I need to meet this director immediately." The president said to his assistant for national security affairs, also known as the president's national security adviser, who was a high-level assistant in the president's executive office and his most trusted confidant.

This person was dressed in a crystal-clear outfit and wore glasses. "Okay, Mr. President, I will contact the director now."

After that, he left the meeting room.

During this waiting period, everyone was still discussing some feasible plans, but the results were not very good. Fortunately, in less than an hour, a black bald man wearing a black coat, a tall figure, and an eye patch walked in.

It was S.H.I.E.L.D Director Nick Fury.

"Mr. President."

"Director Nick Fury, I think you should know what happened recently." The president's tone was very gentle and not tough. After all, although he was the president, he was now asking for help.

Naturally, he should be more kind. After all, it was impossible to reach this position without brains.

"Yes, Mr. President. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s duty is to be responsible for supernatural events. So far, a total of 1,383 people have been killed. Some of these dead people are powerful and have brought very bad influences."

Fury definitely knew it well. He was able to appear here because someone who mentioned him was also an agent.

Although this did not conform to the code of conduct of S.H.I.E.L.D., he couldn't care about it in the current situation, not to mention that he had never been a person who fully abided by the code of conduct.

As long as the goal could be achieved, any means could be used.

"It is indeed very bad."

"From the time my assistant contacted you to the time you came to the conference room, thirteen calls came to me."

"They only had one request: to arrest all those who caused this tragedy."

The president sat on the chair with his legs crossed, his hands on his legs, and his tone was calm.

He looked calm.

Fury had admiration on his face, as if he admired the president's character very much. In fact, he knew that the president had been anxious for the past two days.

He would not expose the president now but followed his words solemnly and seriously. "The large-scale killing of the top class will cause the situation of the whole world to be unbalanced."

"We need to stop the Mutants from continuing."

"Well said, Director Nick Fury, do you have any way to help me solve this problem?"

After the president finished speaking very straightforwardly, he added, "If you can solve it, then I think S.H.I.E.L.D's ability should not stop here."

In fact, the words had been said clearly; it was a deal.

Fury said without nonsense, "I can be a spokesperson to negotiate with the Mutants."

He knew that the so-called "big shot" in the negotiation would not end at all.

As for Professor X's heaven-defying ability, they had no doubt that they would be manipulated as long as they appeared.

This killing had already scared them.

"I believe their demands are simple, but some people need to sacrifice."

"They will not agree," the president shook his head and rejected it.

That group just wanted the Mutant group to disappear, no matter how much it cost. The war would not affect the big shots anyway.

"Then tell them that Professor X has a mind amplifier that can spread his mind power all over the Earth. If the war starts, they will die."

"What the...?"

The president's eyes widened.
