Chapter 27 - A hundred?

"When?" Alina asked, her golden eyes widening with concern. Her muzzle was raised as she stared at Darius, her chest still heaving up and down.

Darius shook his head slowly, his stormy gray eyes reflecting the uncertainty that gnawed at him.

"I can't tell. The sign isn't clear enough." His voice was heavy with frustration. He let out a low growl through his muzzle for what was supposed to be an exasperated sigh, his jaw tightening.

"But whatever it is, it would be better for all of us to start getting ready." He added.

A howl of fear tore from Alina's throat just as the wind outside continued its eerie howling, and pieces of debris from his destroyed roof scattered around them like omens of the darkness to come.
