Kitano Ryuichi ordered two lunches at the Tracen Academy cafeteria counter, but not for himself. He couldn't possibly eat two large meals. The first order was for Mihono Bourbon.
Along the way, Ryuichi had chatted quite a bit with her. He was curious why this loop's version of events differed from his memory. In his loop with Bourbon, he had met her on campus after she had already enrolled.
But now, in this loop, she was just enrolling, which made Ryuichi wonder if the timeline had shifted forward a bit. He wasn't sure.
However, during their walk, he learned about her ordeal. She was supposed to come by car, but it broke down. She had to switch to a train, but that line was suspended for the day. She ended up having to run all the way here, dragging a suitcase. Halfway there, a wheel on the suitcase broke, so she had to slowly carry it the rest of the way to Tracen Academy. By the time she arrived, she was exhausted and starving.
Honestly, if Ryuichi didn't know that Mihono Bourbon wasn't the type to lie, he would have suspected she'd swapped souls with Rice Shower. How else could someone be so unlucky?
Regardless, since he had run into her, as her former trainer, he couldn't just leave her be. He had to treat her to lunch as a gesture of sympathy.
"Here, eat up. I ordered this specially for you."
Ryuichi placed the meal in front of her. The famished Mihono Bourbon was clearly eager to eat, but she still put her hands together and said earnestly:
"Acknowledged. I will now begin consumption." (Itadakimasu.)
"Eat slowly, don't choke," Ryuichi said with a smile as he watched her pick up her utensils and begin eating with an elegant yet rapid pace. He picked up his own steaming bowl of miso soup, about to take a sip.
"—Please wait!"
Just then, Bourbon, who had been focused on her food, saw Ryuichi raise the hot soup to his lips. Her eyes narrowed, her voice rising in pitch for the first time as she called out in alarm.
Her voice and action startled Ryuichi so much he nearly dropped the bowl. Mihono Bourbon rarely showed emotion. Her reaction just now was as if she'd seen someone poison his soup.
Ryuichi put the bowl down. The few scattered Uma Musume in the cafeteria all stopped to look over. Bourbon was now standing, her hands pressed against the table, her expression agitated.
Are they... fighting? A few of the girls exchanged glances, seemingly considering whether to go over and ask.
Realizing her overreaction, Bourbon slowly sat back down and resumed her emotionless tone.
"A reminder from Mihono Bourbon. Mr. Kitano, please do not consume food too quickly, especially high-temperature soups. It will have a negative impact on your esophagus."
"Please allow it to cool before consumption. You must pay attention to your health."
"Phew... You scared me."
Ryuichi finally let out a breath, and the atmosphere in the room relaxed. He patted his chest and said to Bourbon, still a little shaken, "I thought there was poison in the soup for a second..."
"But thank you for the reminder. I'll be sure to let it cool before drinking."
"..." However, Mihono Bourbon did not relax her guard. Her eyes remained fixed on the bowl of miso soup in Ryuichi's hands, her gaze as intense as if she were facing a formidable enemy.
"...Um? Ms. Mihono? Why are you staring at me?"
"A request from Mihono Bourbon. May I have the miso soup?" She held out her hand, asking for the bowl. Ryuichi was completely baffled, but because he trusted her implicitly, he handed it over.
The next moment, after taking the soup, Mihono Bourbon did something that stunned Kitano Ryuichi and everyone else who was still casually watching them.
