Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 I was careless after all

All the Timberjack Dragons nodded at Hiccup, then flapped their wings and took off, heading towards the center of the island.

The Timberjack Dragons flew in formation naturally, but they didn't find anything unusual in their sight. Moreover, all the Timberjack Dragons searched the entire island and found nothing.

So they returned directly and told Hiccup, "We didn't see anything on this island! There's just a strange smell!"

This was difficult to deal with; he couldn't smell the scent, and even if he could, he wouldn't know what creature it was. So he could only brace himself and move forward.

Hiccup also didn't want to provoke those unknown creatures; after all, it's better to avoid trouble if possible.

So, he rode Toothless directly towards the sheep. As he passed the pile of white bones, Hiccup's uneasy feeling grew stronger.

He also smelled a peculiar scent, not the previous smell of rotting Dragon corpses, but a unique fishy smell from the sea.

This smell was particularly strong, as if a reef soaked in the seabed had been brought up.

Hiccup turned to look at the Timberjack Dragons, and they nodded back at him, indicating that was indeed the smell.

Since the target had been confirmed, it meant that the unknown creature was hidden nearby.

Suddenly, the three Dragons that had died, maintaining their original deceased postures, underwent a sudden change.

In that instant, the change was very obvious; the flesh on the Dragon corpses had diminished, and not in an obvious way, but as if something had hollowed them out from the inside.

Hiccup immediately thought of a parasite movie he had once seen, where tiny worms would burrow under the skin and eat people down to skin and bones.

Thinking of those dense little worms, Hiccup felt a sudden panic, but he couldn't suppress his curiosity.

So, Hiccup turned to Toothless and said, "Toothless, attack that Dragon corpse!"

Although Toothless didn't understand why Hiccup wanted him to do this, he would still obey orders unconditionally.

"Roar~!"

A blue-purple fireball flew from Toothless's mouth, accurately hitting the Dragon corpse.

"Bang!"

Since these Dragon corpses had lost their energy sustenance, they were easily pierced by Toothless's fireball, and shredded meat flew everywhere.

However, only a head-sized hole was left on the Dragon corpse. From the outside, one could see that it was indeed empty inside; the internal flesh and organs had been eaten by an unknown creature.

Originally, Hiccup thought it was truly the work of parasites, but behind that bloody hole, a human head suddenly appeared, blinking its eyes in Hiccup's direction.

"Holy crap~!"

Hiccup quickly raised his retractable shield in front of him, and commanded the Timberjack Dragons, "Quickly take those sheep away! I'll cover your retreat!"

The Timberjack Dragons immediately obeyed Hiccup's command and quickly pulled the sheep out from the pile of white bones.

Fortunately, the sheep all had ropes used by humans on them, so they could be easily picked up, and one Timberjack Dragon could carry two or three.

Toothless bared his teeth, his gaze fixed on the figure within the corpse, and that figure, hidden within the Dragon corpse, also stared back at Hiccup.

Neither side moved, and they remained in a standoff.

Watching the Timberjack Dragons fly away, Hiccup let out a long sigh of relief, but Old Dragon Snout did not abandon Hiccup and fly away.

Although the Timberjack Dragon's temperament is gentle and he rarely harms people, when his rider is in danger, that is when he is at his most irritable and fierce.

Snotlout kept his eyes on the Dragon corpses below from the sky.

Hiccup also understood Snotlout's intention, so he didn't pay him any mind, because at this moment, the person hiding inside the Dragon corpse had already emerged.

A long golden hair, stained with blood, suddenly emerged from the Dragon corpse, followed by a skirt made of kelp and seaweed.

Further down, there was the footprint left on the island, which indeed only had a sole and no toes.

Upon seeing this peculiar creature, Hiccup instinctively took two steps back, while Toothless immediately blocked in front of him.

He even looked at Hiccup sideways, as if mocking him for being timid.

"Yah~~~!"

This unknown creature suddenly opened its mouth wide and let out a sharp shriek.

Afterward, the entire sea surface began to churn with huge waves, as if to submerge the entire island.

Looking at that familiar golden hair, Hiccup muttered to himself, "Is it a Siren?"

"Otherwise, it wouldn't be possible to cross the vast sea and arrive at this small island surrounded by ocean! Besides flying, it must be able to swim!"

"Roar!"

It seemed the Siren's scream had angered Toothless, so he directly spat out a blue-purple fireball.

However, this Siren actually hid directly into the sand, then she fled rapidly.

Hiccup directly threw a bottle full of green mist onto the ground to obscure the Siren's vision.

Immediately, he flipped onto Toothless's neck, and Toothless quickly carried him into the air.

When the distance was sufficient, Toothless directly spat a blue-purple fireball at the green mist.

"Boom~!"

This time, the density of the green mist was very high, so it exploded directly upon encountering the fireball. The intense flames immediately enveloped the Siren.

"Yah~~~!"

A scream came from below; the Siren must have been seriously injured.

Now that he understood what the unknown creature was, Hiccup would not linger too long, as killing the Siren would be of no use.

And it also confirmed something: mermaids in fairy tales are beautiful and kind, but this thing in front of him, let's temporarily call her a mermaid.

But this appearance was truly too ugly, with a face covered in blood, and fish scales from the neck down. Hiccup even wondered what use her seaweed skirt was; even if she wore nothing, it would be impossible to look at her more than once.

Although the Dragon Potion records a type of offensive potion that requires extracting a liquid from a Siren.

But Hiccup directly abandoned this idea, because this Siren couldn't use magic, so even if he killed her and extracted the liquid, it would be useless. He had originally wanted to see what a magic attack looked like, but now he was somewhat disappointed.

So, Hiccup patted Toothless's neck and said, "Let's go!"

He originally thought he was safe in mid-air, and the Siren couldn't reach him, but out of the corner of Hiccup's eye, he suddenly saw something flying towards him from the sea.

He instinctively raised the retractable shield in his hand.

"Clang~!"

The shield sounded like a gong, emitting a crisp sound upon impact. Hiccup was even directly knocked off Toothless's back by this attack.
