Chapter 1 - Gloomy Pond

It was the sixth day, or rather night of the full moon. Through the cloudy sky a radiant glow was illuminating a small meadow. It was a strange sight. Although, the meadow itself was illuminated by the light of the moon, there in the middle of it was a pond completely covered in darkness. Then a man started walking towards the centre of this peculiar pond. He's stepped on the surface of the water, as it was completely natural for him to do so. After a few steps he fell on his knees full of tears, he looked at the sky and screamed.

< Why..why can't I be the one who's the recipient of all that love and happiness? What do I lack in myself? >

The pond stirred and said.

< There are many things that could discredit your claim for it in the eyes of others. As there are many things that could support it, in the end that's not what deprived you from it >

The man asked.

< What is then? Why am I not the one who was chosen as the person who got all that I desired? >

The gloomy pond answered.

< That is because you were unlucky enough to be you >

The man stunned by the answer, hesitated and asked again.

< How is that fair? Does it mean that no matter how much more I would try I would not be the one subjected to her love? >

The gloomy pond answered again.

< Perhpas, some things are just not meant to be. But drowning in sadness and self-pity is a road to unhappiness. >

The man got up from his knees, turned away from the centre of the pond and started going in the direction of the meadow. Then he stopped and asked one last question.

< Is that it? Is that all I'm going to get from you? >

The full moon started disappearing and with it the pond seemed to disappear as well, but before that it said.

< What did you expect? It is nothing, but a part of human life. Regret, pain and unfairness. It is up to you how you react to it and if you want to live a life full of sorrow or one of contentment. >

The man didn't say anything. He started walking away from the meadow. And the bizarre pond that was there just a second ago seemed to never existed there at all
