Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: UN discussion at 2

[Two hours later]

After two hours of discussion, the meeting broke for a recess, and Cecil found himself walking the halls of the building alongside the US representative.

The man was a typical American with blonde hair and blue eyes however he was on the shorter side in terms of height and he did not seem like the type to work out as told by the pot belly he had.

"Dammit, this is why I hate these meetings, two hours and nothing has been done and no decision has been made"

John Johnson expressed as he walked on Cecil's flank.

"You've had this job for a while now, I thought you'd be used to it by now"

Cecil countered, the director of the GDA walked with the gait of a man who was in no hurry, hands in his pocket and his shoulders relaxed, this was completely out of character for him, after all he almost never relaxes.

However his current relaxation came from the fact that he knew this meeting would go absolutely nowhere, not anytime soon and given the fact his phone hasn't pinged once, told him that everything was going well in the world at least for the time being.

Unlike most professions, his was not the type to allow for vacations. As such, Cecil learned to enjoy the very little moments he got to relax.

"I am, but I at least thought everyone would be on the same page on this one thing. It's literally Aliens, there's no bigger threat to Earth's security than that."

He said, and Cecil could see where he was coming from, Martian man is one thing. He at least comes from the same solar system, the same neighborhood. These Viltrumites come from literally billions of light years away.

An astrophysicist once said, it's completely unfair to expect Aliens to be advanced enough to have beyond light speed travel and expect them to come to us. What if they're just like us? What if we're more advanced than them?

Up until two days ago, Cecil was on board with that idea. Sure, there was a Martian man, but he was an exception. The rest of the Martians had no interest in coming to earth

The fact that aliens came from billion of light years away to earth, was enough proof for Johnson to believe earth need major upgrades to its technology and weapons and the fact the first aliens that showed up were non-hostil was the perfect opportunity

Sure, the aliens might be lying and are hoping to simply infiltrate and take over however if that's the case, then why not take over earth from the get go, it made no sense to him.

Not only that, even if that was the plan, it would take them years before they could do it, years earth could bolster its defenses and upgrade its technology

Johnson knew well that the other representatives had come to the same conclusions as him at this point. He just did not understand why no progress had been made yet.

"I can't argue with you on that"

The GDA Director shrugged his shoulders and sighed, Cecil knew why there had been no progress. It was easy to see that every country was looking out for themselves.

The fact that the aliens did not immediately try to take over the world told the representatives that there was a way their home nation could gain the alien tech before the other countries.

This meant all the representatives were purposely objecting to letting the aliens land because they wanted their home country to be the one to welcome the aliens and gain all the benefits that came with that.

Cecil didn't believe Johnson wasn't aware of this, He was most likely just playing dumb for whatever reason.

"honestly, if the decision ends up being against the aliens making landfall, then it's a good thing that a fellow country man is the one who made contact with them"

There it is.

Cecil let out a snort in an attempt to stifle his laughter, as a Director of the GDA he was not told to renounce his home country when he was sworn in, in fact it was stressed that he never forget it.

The GDA was an organization that represented all nations on earth, it was different from the UN, all nations contributed to the budget and citizens of any nation were allowed to join, provided they had the right credentials and skills.

It didn't matter if agents came from warring nations or are part of religions that oppose each other, as agents of the GDA, their concern was to protect Earth and its people.

"No can do Johnson, you're on your own on that"

Cecil answered, and all of a sudden, he realized that he needed to get back to GDA headquarters. No doubt the other representatives will be hounding him for information regarding the aliens.

"What do you mean? Even if you're the GDA Director, you're still a red-blooded American. Helping out your home nation shouldn't be too much to ask."

"I already did my job, If the verdict is to deny the aliens in order to protect the earth, then so be it"

He countered. Obviously, that wasn't something he truly believed. After all, it's abundantly clear that the earth needs the technology the aliens are promising. It would be stupid to let something like that go.

Luckily for him the GDA and UN are separate organizations; whatever the UN decides does not necessarily mean the GDA has to abide by that decision, especially if Cecil has deemed that the decision works against the safety of the planet.

If the UN is against the aliens then Cecil can just say "the UN's decision put earth in a vulnerable position and works against protecting the planet from invaders and thus it is invalid" and from there he can act on his authority as the director of the GDA and welcome the aliens.

Not only would that help earth gain powerful alien tech, but it would also mean the GDA would have a monopoly on the tech and the aliens. Regardless of the decision the UN makes, it would be a win for him.
