Chapter 1 - Chapter 1- A blessing

In the outskirts of a struggling kingdom lied a village with a young boy who was once ordinary like those around him. As a boy James worked in the fields to help his village make enough food to just survive the winter. He would help around the village as much as he could from helping the elders around to watching the other younger children while the men hunt for wild game and the women harvest. He would run through the woods with the other kids his age and this continued for years.

When James was young though on a unparticular night as him and the others kids were playing in the woods James ran further than the rest to hide. The woods around the village were relatively safe as the men had drove off most creatures that would have threatened the young ones. so the only things in these woods were the occasional deer or its fawn. although the village had a rule that it was forbidden for any one to go past the river that separated the village and the deeper forest.

James though was on a mission to prove that he was the fastest and the best at this child's game. as any young man James wanted to impress the young ladies especially a girl named Violet who he had grew up with. He saw the rule as the only obstacle to being seen as cool.

James finally stood at the edge of the river, he looked back to make sure that no one was following him. He began to wade his way through the river, as he finally made his way to the other side he stood at bank of the river on the other side he looked into the woods and realized the density of the wood. It was dark and held no breeze and it felt as if the world had stopped.

He began to walk through the woods marking trees, James wasn't a idiot and new it was easy even for a experienced hunter to get lost in these woods. His curiosity got the best of him, and he began to walk deeper into the woods. As he continued to walk through the woods it felt as though hours had past, and it was almost pitch black until finally he saw what seemed to be the edge of the woods but what was in front of him even peaked his curiosity even more. What stood in front of him was a massive stone mountain that looked to reach the clouds. He was bewildered as he had never seen or heard of a mountain this tall or large from the villagers or the passing merchants.

At the base of the mountain was the mouth of a cave that had torches on either side of he entrance, but from the were he stood he saw that there was light coming from deeper within the cave. \

"How is someone living this deep in the woods "

James thought to himself the possibility of someone living out hear was near zero as his village was the closest for miles.

Again though curiosity got the best of James and he began stepping closer to the mouth of the cave and eventually he found himself inside the entrance. and as he walk further in the saw a being that looked to be glowing keeled over. The being looked to be almost in prayer to something that James couldn't make out. It was a sort of statue of a being that was beautiful but had wings that wrapped around him. As he stepped to look closer his feet beneath him crushed a piece of slate. it was enough noise to alert the being to his presence.

"QUI MANE CONTURBAT ORARE FILIUM MEUM"

James scared out of his mind stood out from behind a rock he was hiding behind, he screamed.

"I'M SO SORRY PLEASE I DIDN'T MEAN TO DISTURB YOU"

The being who was filled with rage suddenly looked calm and pleased to see him, like he was a lost friend. The being spoke again but this time more calmy towards him.

"Oh child I apologize for my outrage but humans seem to forgotten their place so I feared the worst"

"N-No it's my fault I shouldn't have just approached you like that it was rude of me"

James replied, the being began to walk closer to him and knelt over to be face to face with. The being had a strange smell to him, but he paid no mind to it simply putting off as the being has been out here for some time so your bound to not smell great after some time.

"What is your name young one"

"Ja-James"

"Well James what lead you to find me"

"Mm I-I was playing with my friends and was trying to find a place to hide"

"Well, your very courageous James for making it this far"

"Tha-thank you"

" I Shall reward you for your courage"

"Really!"

" Yes, for your courage I shall make you invincible, but for it to work I must have your hand"

"WHAT"

"Oh, ha-ha, no child I'm not taking your hand, I would just like to see"

"Oh, Ok"

James felt relief, for a second he was fearful the being meant they were going to literally take his hand. He then put his hand out to which the being quickly grab his hand and covered it with its own hands.

"Maledico hunc puerum in aeternum vivere ut amores suos circum se moriatur et mortem suam optet, vicissim veram animam accipiam "

" it is done child, now run along before those close to you begin to worry"

"OK"

James began to run to the entrance but stopped and turned around seeming to forget his manners.

"I'm sorry but what was your name"

"Do not worry child its better for me that you don't know my name"

He was caught guard by the statement but James replied still wanting to thank the being for the amazing gift.

"mm Ok well thank you so much but I must return home"

"No than-"

James then turned back around not catching what the being said and ran back home following his markers and waded his way back across the river and finally reached the edge of the village were his friends stood with his parents who appeared distressed. His parents realizing that James was not in fact missing or dead they rushed towards him asking him where he had been. Though him still being a child his parents didn't believe when he said that he was going to be supper strong and held powers within him. He then went to the other child claiming he went to the other side of the river, but they didn't believe him no matter how much he tried to persuade them. That night went to bed dreaming of what he was going to do with his new powers.
