Chapter 6 - The Price of Protection

Episode 6

Everyone stood near the window, watching in horror. Outside, those who had been infected by the virus had turned into wild creatures, attacking people mercilessly. The terrifying chaos below had stolen the courage of every soul in the room.

Suddenly, a foot forced its way inside through the window, making everyone flinch back in fear.

"Close the window! Quickly!" Hasnain shouted in a commanding voice.

They all rushed to push it shut. The window was like a giant swinging door, heavy and difficult to close. And now, with that foot stuck between the frame, their efforts were failing.

Just then, Afra, who stood a little behind with Sanaa, raised her voice sharply:

"Wait! Stop! He's not infected!"

At her words, everyone froze. Ghani carefully loosened his grip and opened the window just a little. A young man stumbled inside and fell onto the floor. His ankle was twisted, and he grabbed it tightly, groaning in pain, laughter mixed strangely with his cries.

"Ha… ha…"

A few seconds later, he managed to sit up, but the pain was too much for him to stand. His trembling voice broke through the silence:

"My friend… she was right behind me. Please… save her. Quickly!"

Ghani, standing at the edge of the window, looked outside. A girl was clinging to the wall, carefully making her way toward them. She was on the fourth floor, and every glance downward filled her with dread. She tried to move forward using the narrow ledges, her body shaking with fear.

"Don't look down!" Ghani urged. "Just hurry and come this way!"

Within moments, she reached the window. Ghani stretched his hand to help her, and she sat down on the edge, trying to gather her strength. But dizziness overtook her, and her vision began to blur.

Hasnain's eyes fell on her leg. A deep wound marked her right ankle, raw and jagged, like a bite. His face hardened. Without hesitation, he moved swiftly forward, gripped her, and pushed her back.

A piercing scream filled the air as the girl fell from the fourth floor.

Ghani's eyes darted downward. On the ground far below, the crimson of blood spread outward like a terrible shadow. He squeezed his eyes shut and turned away in horror. The rest stared at Hasnain in shock, unable to believe what had just happened. Hasnain, however, pulled the window shut without a second thought.

The injured boy on the floor mustered all his strength and staggered toward Hasnain. Seizing him by the collar with both hands, he cried out in grief, his voice cracking with rage:

"What have you done?! You killed her… you killed my love! How could you?!"

His face was streaked with dirt and blood, and endless tears poured down his cheeks. His eyes blazed with pain as he glared into Hasnain's calm, steady gaze.

"I swear to her memory… I will take revenge on you."

With that, he shoved Hasnain's collar away.

Yet Hasnain stood firm, untouched by the boy's words. In his heart, he believed he had done the right thing—for everyone's safety.

The boy stumbled back toward the window, looking down at the body below. His fists clenched tightly as tears streamed down once again. Turning away, he sank into a silent corner.

Sanaa's eyes followed him, and quiet tears slipped down her own cheeks. Afra reached for her hand, and the two sat together in silence. The others lowered their heads, each lost in thought, no one daring to speak.

Hasnain still stood where he was, unmoving. His trance broke only when Ghani softly called out to him:

"Hasnain…"

"Yes…" Hasnain replied faintly, glancing his way.

"Sit down," Ghani said gently.

Without protest, Hasnain walked over and lowered himself against the wall. Everyone's eyes followed him—especially Sanaa's.
