Chapter 4 - The Last-Minute Driver

Fang Yichen glanced down at the dark coffee stain on his shirt, his expression unchanging, but the icy coldness in his eyes was enough to make anyone retreat.

"Watch your step next time," he said indifferently before turning to leave.

—Damn, this guy is seriously cold. Sure, you're the boss and I'm the employee, but in my case, I'm practically your "top-tier cash cow," right? Couldn't you at least crack a tiny smile?

Downstairs, Xingyue's company car was already waiting at the entrance.

Leo, the driver and assistant, saw him coming and immediately stepped out to greet him. "Mr. Fang, your shirt… what happened?"

"Nothing," Fang Yichen replied flatly, checking his watch. "Business comes first. I need to get to the private room at Huadu Hotel immediately. Just grab a jacket to cover it for now."

Leo smacked his forehead. "I remember you have a matching jacket in your office upstairs. I'll go get it."

Fang Yichen nodded. "Hurry. Don't waste time."

Leo turned and rushed back into the building. But in his haste, his foot slipped on the stairs, and with a loud "Oof!" he stumbled and tumbled down.

I was waiting by the stairwell for Candy to fetch the bag I'd left in the live-streaming room when Leo suddenly came crashing down in front of me, startling me.

"Are you okay?!" I crouched down to help him up, but his face was pale, and sweat beaded on his forehead.

Seeing how badly hurt he was, I immediately pulled out my phone and dialed emergency services. "Hello, Someone's injured here…"

Leo was breathing heavily from the pain, but he grabbed my hand urgently. "Miss… the jacket… please take it to Mr. Fang… He's waiting in the company car outside. He has a business meeting…"

I froze, looking at his gritted teeth and stubborn determination. This kind of work ethic would probably make even capitalists give him a thumbs-up.

"Okay, don't move. The ambulance is on its way. I'll take it to him."

Once Candy arrived, I had her stay with Leo while I grabbed the jacket and jogged to the company car. I pulled open the door to find the man inside reviewing documents.

"Your jacket," I said, handing it over.

Fang Yichen looked up, his brow furrowing slightly. "Why you?"

I blinked. What's with that tone?

"I'm doing you a favor delivering this, and that's how you react?"

He raised an eyebrow, firing back without hesitation. "If you hadn't stained my shirt, would I even need to change?"

I was momentarily speechless before forcing out an explanation. "Leo fell and hurt himself while fetching the jacket. I'm just bringing it to you."

"What?" Fang Yichen's expression darkened instantly, his gaze sharp as a blade. "How did he fall? Did you have something to do with it?"

"Of course not!" I waved my hands frantically. "He was in a hurry and slipped on the stairs.

I was the one who called the ambulance for him!"

But he clearly wasn't fully convinced. He checked his watch again, his frown deepening. "I'll have to call another driver. Not sure if there's still time."

As he pulled out his phone, I couldn't help but ask, "Can't you drive yourself?"

He lifted his eyes to me, his gaze frosty. "I don't drive."

I burst out laughing. "The great CEO of Xingyue Entertainment… can't drive?"

His expression shifted slightly, as if I'd touched a nerve he didn't want exposed. The chill in his eyes deepened. "Get out."

My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly waved my hands. "Wait, wait! I can drive! Aren't you in a hurry? I'll take you."

He seemed to weigh his options, his gaze lingering on me for two seconds before finally putting his phone away—albeit reluctantly. "Seatbelt on. Don't crash."

I nodded, thinking that since I was the one who spilled coffee on him, driving him there would make us even. Maybe I won't have to pay for his shirt after all.

Settling into the driver's seat, I shifted into gear and gripped the steering wheel. Wow, it's been a while since I last drove. I'm a little rusty…But I did get my license properly, so it should be fine… right?
