Chapter 8 - 8

Chapter 8

Selene Wolfe

He glanced back at me before pulling the door shut behind him.

For a second, I thought of following him, but brushed the thought off as I slumped to the bed.

'Fiancee'

My knuckles turned white as I curled my fingers into my palms.

Tears welled up in my eyes. From being abandoned at birth, to reuniting with my mother who never wanted me, and just when I thought I had found hope, this happened?

Oh goddess!

"What happens to us, Alpha? How could you get another woman pregnant while we are still together?"

Sophie's voice tore through my thoughts, slamming me back to reality. Her voice was loud, yet cracking with sadness evident in it.

I rose to my feet, subconsciously heading to the door. For a second, I thought they were outside my room, but they weren't. The noise was coming from one of the doors along the walkway.

"This would never have happened had you not drugged me!"

I froze. He was also drugged?

"I didn't do that for you to sleep with another woman! What would you have done if you were in my shoes?!" Her voice was firm, this time.

What on earth is happening?

"Alpha…" Her voice cracked again, like she was about to break down. "You can't do this to me, alright? We've been together for years. You can't do this. You need to do something about it." She pleaded.

My legs finally moved. Somehow, I wanted to go peep, but then, the door flung open, and I was quick to step back when I saw Sophie step outside. Thankfully, she walked away without seeing me.

I returned to my room with my heart weighing heavily in my chest.

I sat in my bed, face buried between my palms and tears streaming down my cheeks.

I had no idea how long I sat there crying, but eventually I was summoned by the Alpha.

As I sat in the living room, my eyes scanned everywhere else except toward the Alpha and Sophie sitting across from me.

I heard the thudding in my chest. Every thump heavier than the last.

The atmosphere was tense. The air was mixed with Sophie's smoky scent. Strong and dangerous.

My fingers twitched, and I rubbed my sweaty palms against each other, waiting like a criminal awaiting her verdict.

"Selene…" Alpha Storm's voice cut through the silence. I met his gaze as I looked up.

He hesitated for a moment, but spoke up anyway. "Sophie and I are engaged as you know…"

Sophie's face brightened with a smile, eyes locked on me.

"I can't be with another woman."

I already knew that. But it still stung.

"I can give you everything you want, but mating you, Selene… I will protect you and our child. I will make sure you two are comfortable. But I can't marry you."

His eyes bored into mine, hesitation creeping up his face.

I tightened my jaw and fists as I dropped my gaze. A burning sensation spread in my throat down to my stomach, the air around me suddenly felt dense and choking, but I remained calm.

Baby mama? Can my life get any worse than this? Not that I was expecting marriage anyway.

Just as I was about to nod, Sophie's voice came on.

"You are leaving as soon as you have your baby…"

Just one glance from the Alpha, and she went silent, panic creeping up her face.

He turned to me and flashed me a smile. "You should get some rest, Selene."

He glanced at Sophie, jaw tightened before he left us.

As I stood up to leave, Sophie spoke up.

"I bet you thought your little trick would work, yeah?"

I halted abruptly, curling my fingers into my palm as I bit hard into my lip that it almost bled.

"I'm going to make sure you regret ever coming into this pack. No one messes with what is mine…" She paused, and as I turned to face her, she closed the distance between us, her lips curled in a smirk. "I will drag you to the pit of hell… where you belong."

And with that, she walked past me, bumping shoulders with me.

I stood on the spot, tears blurred my vision, my lips trembling, and heart twisting in my chest as I stared at nothing.

I can't possibly stay back here, knowing that neither myself nor my baby was safe.

"I will protect you, baby. We need to get out of this mess." I whispered, rubbing my stomach gently as a drop of tears slid down my cheeks…
