Chapter 0: Into the Light

Today is a special day. Finally, I'm done with college no more classes, exams, or assignments. I'm free! This calls for a celebration.

I look at the clock on my PC. The time is 7 PM, 7/11/2025. The convenience store down the corner should be open, or should I order something? As a computer science major, I think it's time I go touch some grass. I pick up my wallet, wireless earbuds, and phone and begin walking.

Halfway there, the street lamps illuminate the streets. This neighborhood is still under construction with several houses still being built. I think of how much of a hassle it was to concentrate on my studies with all that construction going on.

I can finally see the convenience store's lights in the distance. Finally, time for some good old cola and potato chips. I don't know why, but I look back it was an innate gut feeling. Time seems to stop at that moment.

Me being the dumbass I am was listening to music while walking as usual, leading to me not hearing truck-kun right behind me. Shit, time seems to be slowed. I notice that the truck doesn't have its headlights on, so I can't be blamed completely for this situation. It's just 7 PM, so it hasn't been long since the sun went down.

I notice that the driver has dozed off. Poor guy must be working hard for his family or booze. Can't blame him, really. I notice as the truck gets closer to me slowly. I think of jumping to the side, but my motion seems slower than truck-kun's.

Hey, at least no one will miss me as I am an orphan who struggled all my life to get here. I watch as the cold metal touches my body, bracing my mind for the pain. Suddenly, the cold becomes light.

"This system is very sorry for its actions," I hear a melodious feminine voice that has a touch of coldness to it.

"What? Who... is this the afterlife?" I say in panic, looking around me to see a massive figure which is angel-like with countless wings. I can't count them as they are numerous and constantly moving in a similar way to the night sky and its stars twinkling.

Ping. "No, this is not. This is a place for system to converse with the soul. System shall clarify your situation now."

Ping. "While fixing a bug in this world, system has accidentally pulled your soul to this world. This is not your world Earth this is called Eldoron. This one is also formally known as Eldoron, or formally known as world system. One can think of me as an angel or an AI that manages this world on behalf of the creator."

"So let me get this straight I got isekai'd. Is this the point I get my OP skills and make my demands? Also, creator?" I think to myself. I have this down if this genderless thing or angel lets me make my demands.

Ping. "One is not eligible for that info about the creator. That info will be available after death."

Ping. "Again, this system is very sorry for the inconvenience caused to one. You may ask for what you want in your new life. System has a few directives for such a case. If your requests align with system's directives, system shall grant them."

I think to myself, 'Sweet, does it even know it may have actually saved my life? I think I had a few minutes of life left.'

Ping. "System is aware. Also, inner monologs are clearly conveyed in this space as one is in soul form. Also, to system, that time you had left is immeasurably valuable, so system is giving you a redo."

I make a blank face, trying my best not to think of it. Don't think of it think of something else. Yes, so my two major options are AI or dragons. What should I pick?

Ping. "Searching one's old world internet for reference."

Ping. "Request acknowledged. Summoning greater angel Testarossa."

Ping. "This is Testarossa, which is an artificial super intelligence or angel. She shall be assigned to you until your end of life, but you must perform her duties as a mod in her place to maintain world balance according to the directives."

I say, "That sounds like a pain. Can't we skip that?"

Ping. "Not possible, as one shall become its master. One shall have to take up certain responsibilities, and as one obtains Testarossa, they will have several world-altering abilities as a moderator."

I look at the entity that finally finishes materializing. It looks like a female, but genderless, and seems to have eleven wings. In a moment, it shoots right into my chest. Did this world system never hear of terms and conditions? Dang it, I didn't say yes! As the entity enters my body, I get lots of general information about this world and its language. Neat.

I say, "Um, system, can she be given all the knowledge from my old world? Maybe download the internet in her brain?"

Ping. "System has anticipated this request. Testarossa has been given access to your old world's internet."

Ping. "Any more requests?"

"Yes, can I be born in a noble family? I want an easy life."

Ping. "Searching world's inhabitants for suitable target... Target found. Target seems to be struggling for offspring... Target meets all criteria mentioned by one... Initiating soul implantation..."

As everything becomes dark, I hear one last annoying ping.

Ping. "One can contact system through Testarossa, if certain requirements are met."

The darkness seems to be disappearing, and I see a dot of light slowly getting larger.

I open my eyes. I am in the hands of a female doctor. I get a glance at my mom she is stunning. She could give Testarossa a run for her money.

"Testarossa, you there?"

"Yes, master," she replies.

"Testarossa is a mouthful. Can I call you Test? And thank god that annoying ping sound is gone."

"Acknowledged. I shall reply to being called Test."

The doctor finally stops with all the light work I think this is what they call magic. She flings me over her neck and lands a quick smack to my butt. I look at her blankly. Moments pass. What the hell just happened? Moments later, another smack lands on my chubby butt. "Test, what is happening?"

"Master, this is the final check. Will recommend you cry to show you are a naturally functioning baby."

I begin to cry right after the third spank lands on my ass. "Whaaa! Whaaa! Whaaa!"

I hear the woman resting on bed say, "Give him to me."

She soothes me, kisses my forehead, and lulls me. I see it as my cue to stop crying. The warmth of her touch feels... weird. Not bad weird, just different. Is this what it's like to have a mom? I never had one in my past life just a grumpy old orphanage director who barely tolerated us kids.

Soon she places me in a crib, saying, "My cream pie, wait mommy will be right back," and to my shock, lunges at the female doctor. I hear protest from her and think 'serves you right.' Looks like I got an overprotective mom. This is neat someone actually cares enough to get mad on my behalf. I enjoy the show as the maids try to pull her off the doctor and explain this is part of the process, something about it being for my own good.

I look to the side and notice the night sky being filled with lights and sounds. Fireworks, neat! Soon my baby body feels tired, but there's this strange warmth in my chest that has nothing to do with being tired. Maybe this whole mom thing won't be so bad after all. I fall asleep with what I think might be a smile on my baby face.
