Chapter 82 - Hydra: Surprise, Surprise, Our Old Rival, Captain America, is Still Alive!

Of course.

Nick Fury knew Tony Stark's personality.

You could say he was the most willful and unpredictable super-rich playboy in New York, even in America.

Having some unusual hobbies compared to ordinary rich people was understandable.

Maybe the playboy secretly liked these supernatural things?

No one could guarantee otherwise.

But regardless, Fury couldn't refute Black Widow's deduction that Tony Stark was also a Diary holder.

Even logically speaking, this inference is smoother.

After all, no matter how individualistic and eccentric Tony Stark is…

It's a bit sudden, isn't it, that he just escaped from the cave and then immediately grasped all of Stane's evidence? Not only that.

If this inference is applied, it not only completes the logical chain for Tony Stark but also fills in the loopholes in the Diary's inaccurate predictions.

In other words.

A full and reasonable explanation has been found for the Diary's inaccurate predictions! Therefore, considering all these factors, Nick Fury, the one-eyed hero, finally decided on his attitude towards the Diary:

All the information revealed in the Diary will be temporarily assumed to be true!

Even some information that seems very absurd and contradicts Nick Fury's understanding:

For example, the extent to which S.H.I.E.L.D. was infiltrated by Hydra.

Nick Fury would seriously analyze each piece of essential information above, even arranging corresponding action deployments!

And if that were the case, Nick Fury would have a lot on his plate.

Because the important intelligence revealed in the Diary was truly substantial.

"Sir, what do you think?"

Black Widow's voice broke Nick Fury's train of thought. Natasha glanced at the bald head and asked.

"It's not impossible."

Nick Fury nodded expressionlessly; no one, not even Black Widow, could see through his innermost thoughts.

"So, sir, what do you plan to do?"

Black Widow asked Nick Fury for his opinion again, pausing before adding specifically, "I mean, what measures should we take against that Satan?"

"No, we won't do that for now."

After some deliberation, Nick Fury made this decision.

After all, judging from the tone of the Diary, that Satan obviously didn't know that his diary had some "readers."

This meant that although the person writing the diary was Satan, the person who sent the diary might not be Satan.

There was a high probability that it was someone else! Even if Nick Fury wanted to take any measures regarding the Diary, he should go find the person who sent them the diary, not the person who wrote it.

Even precisely for this reason, Nick Fury couldn't alarm Satan even more.

After all, if Satan knew that his Diary had readers, would he still unscrupulously reveal those important pieces of intelligence? Not to mention.

With Satan's abilities, even if S.H.I.E.L.D. really wanted to do something, they might not be able to!

So, after Nick Fury weighed everything from a global perspective, he made the same decision as Black Widow and Tony Stark.

To maintain the current situation for the time being.

"Understood."

Black Widow nodded in agreement.

She knew her superior's attitude towards the Diary.

Therefore, Black Widow immediately made a request to Nick Fury.

"Sir, I want to apply to investigate the Red Room!" Black Widow said to Nick Fury, very seriously.

Previously, Black Widow didn't have enough evidence to prove the Red Room's existence, so she couldn't talk to S.H.I.E.L.D. But now, things were different.

Her own superior was now one of the "insiders" who possessed the Diary.

Black Widow naturally had no more concerns.

"No, Natasha, I will assign Barton to handle the Red Room. I have another mission for you."

Nick Fury made his decision after only a moment's consideration.

He turned down Black Widow on the spot and gave her another mission.

"I want you to infiltrate Tony Stark's side."

"Stark?"

Black Widow raised an eyebrow, making an obvious guess, "You want me to confirm if Stark really has the Diary?"

"That's just one of the tasks."

Nick Fury didn't deny it. "Besides that, I also want you to evaluate Stark. I'll consider your assessment to make the final decision on the Avengers' roster."

"Sir, I think the Diary has already given an assessment."

Black Widow shrugged. The Diary had already made it very clear that Tony Stark would be an Avenger in the future.

Not just an Avenger, but one of the three giants of the Avengers!

"I know what the Diary says, Natasha." Nick Fury said, unconcerned.

Even if he decided to temporarily accept the spoilers in the Diary as true, he wouldn't treat the content as gospel.

That information would only be a crucial reference for Nick Fury, nothing more.

"Okay."

Black Widow, who deeply understood her superior, didn't say much more. "What else do you need me to do?"

"Just take care of those two things."

"Sounds like there's no challenge."

Black Widow shrugged and left Nick Fury's office with her Diary, in a rush.

"Sir, what are your orders?"

And after Black Widow left, Nick Fury wasted no time in summoning the ever-reliable Coulson.

"Coulson, I have a top-secret mission for you."

"I need you to lead a team to the Arctic Ocean."

Nick Fury issued the order directly to Coulson.

The Arctic Ocean?

Coulson's mind began to race. There didn't seem to be any unusual findings around the Arctic Ocean.

It seemed the director had obtained some new intelligence.

The honest Coulson didn't ask any further questions, standing at attention, looking like a good student.

He waited for Nick Fury's instructions.

"According to reliable intelligence, your idol might not be dead and is currently resting comfortably in the Arctic Ocean."

"I need you to go and confirm this personally."

Nick Fury's voice echoed again, and Coulson, who was on the other end, couldn't keep his composure.

Coulson worshipped Captain America; it wasn't a secret. Anyone who knew Coulson well was aware of this.

So, even though Nick Fury didn't mention "Captain America" by name, Coulson immediately knew who Nick Fury was referring to. It was precisely because of this that he was truly surprised.

"Sir, do you really think a person can lie at the bottom of the sea for seventy years and survive?"

Coulson couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.

Even though Coulson hoped more than anyone that this was true, that his idol was still alive, his first reaction was that the news was a bit absurd.

Even a super soldier couldn't be this freakish, right?

Moreover, according to various data, Captain America's physical attributes, while at the peak of human potential, weren't exactly exaggerated.

Seventy years without food or water seemed even more impossible.

"That's why I'm sending you personally."

Nick Fury didn't offer any further explanation, just said to Coulson with a deep meaning.

"Understood, sir."

Coulson didn't say more and immediately agreed, "If the Captain is really alive, I will bring him back."

"Good, then act as soon as possible."

Nick Fury waved his hand, dismissing Coulson.

"Wait a minute!"

Just as Coulson was about to turn around, Nick Fury added, "Choose some reliable people."

The Diary said that S.H.I.E.L.D. was full of Hydra moles! And Fury was, for the time being, assuming this to be true.

"I will, sir."

Coulson clearly didn't truly understand what Nick Fury meant. He simply thought that Nick Fury considered the mission important and was giving him specific instructions.

He wouldn't think too much about it.

However, Nick Fury couldn't really explain the situation to Coulson in detail.

He could only let Coulson remain "confused" for now.

"Hill, I have a mission for you."

Nick Fury's deployment wasn't finished. Following Coulson, the Director summoned Agent Hill.

He gave her a top-secret mission as well.

"Anton Vanko, the Soviet scientist who collaborated with Howard Stark to research the Arc Reactor, do you remember him?"

Nick Fury looked at Hill with a profound expression.

"I remember. He later went his separate way from Howard and was sent back to the Soviet Union. Why do you ask?"

After a brief review, Hill asked Nick Fury.

"I have a secret source that suggests Anton Vanko is very likely back in America. He may also have a son named Ivan Vanko."

"That Ivan Vanko, he might possess technology related to the Iron Man Armor. I want you to investigate this."

Nick Fury issued this order to Agent Hill.

That's right.

Nick Fury had his eyes on the Iron Man Armor technology!

Of course, it wasn't just Nick Fury. After Tony Stark officially unveiled the Iron Man Armor, countless people in America, and indeed the entire world, had their sights set on that technology.

The Director was no exception.

However, the Director considered the relationship between Tony Stark and Howard Stark, as well as the playboy's complex background, which is why he decided not to use any underhanded methods against Tony Stark.

But what about someone other than Tony Stark?

Especially a guy with roots in the Soviet Union!

What's there to be polite about, Fury?

Not to mention…

The era of "demons dancing in chaos," as recorded in the Diary, was extremely dangerous and chaotic.

Didn't his future self, or rather, the self from another world, secretly develop weapons because of this? In this situation, Nick Fury had even more reason to master the Iron Man Armor technology!

"Understood, sir!"

Agent Hill also left to carry out her orders.

And so it went.

One order after another was issued by Nick Fury.

Fury made numerous corresponding deployments and arrangements based on the information revealed by the Diary.

Some of the entries were about events that had already been confirmed or had happened, so there was nothing much to say about those.

As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he naturally couldn't ignore them and had to take appropriate action.

However, regarding those events that hadn't yet happened, Nick Fury actually had another thought in mind.

That was, to take the opportunity to further verify the accuracy of the information in the Diary!

It could be said that Nick Fury spent almost an entire afternoon on the Diary.

He had basically done everything he could.

But the most crucial piece of information, the one that gave Nick Fury the biggest headache, left him temporarily helpless.

What information?

Naturally, it was the infiltration of Hydra.

This kind of undercover investigation wasn't something that could be completed overnight.

Moreover, according to the Diary, Hydra had more moles than S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

In this situation, it was even more difficult for Nick Fury to find the moles.

He was almost at a loss for where to begin.

Because if the Diary was telling the truth, Nick Fury had no one he could truly trust!

Except for Coulson, who had "tragically sacrificed" himself, and Black Widow and Barton, the two Avengers who were stamped as trustworthy by the Diary.

Then there was Hill.

She had always been one of Nick Fury's most trusted confidantes, and Nick Fury tentatively considered her reliable.

So he entrusted some important missions to these few people.

As for the others?

The one-eyed man, who never trusted anyone to begin with, became even more cautious.

Rubbing his temples, Nick Fury made a temporary decision.

The matter of Hydra's infiltration couldn't be rushed; it required a long-term plan.

After all, if there were truly so many moles within S.H.I.E.L.D., any slight move on his part would alert them.

And as it turned out, Nick Fury's decision was correct.

Because just a few days later, a significant portion of his arrangements and deployments within the office were leaked.

They reached Alexander Pierce.

Fortunately, none of it involved measures to expose the moles; otherwise, it would have truly aroused suspicion from his old superior.

Even so, Nick Fury still attracted some attention from Pierce.

Because of Nick Fury's actions, even Alexander Pierce was somewhat surprised.

"You're saying Nick Fury ordered Coulson to go to the Arctic Ocean to search for Captain America? He thinks Captain America is still alive?"

In the top-floor office of the Triskelion.

Alexander Pierce looked at the senior Hydra mole in front of him, confirming the information.

That's right, Coulson had indeed followed Nick Fury's instructions, selecting some trusted subordinates.

But Coulson couldn't have known that even with this, he still chose half of Hydra's personnel!

Every single one of his actions fell precisely into Alexander Pierce's eyes.
