Kael's POV

The scent of him was the first genuine feeling of safety I had registered since I had crossed the Roanridge border two days, and a surge of white-hot resentment instantly followed that sense of safety. We had arrived earlier this evening, exhausted, furious, and ready to set fire to his meticulously organized political sphere.

After settling into the Eastern Chambers, I moved to Lord Riven's chambers and then his office. I guessed that Lord Riven Ostel should have been working late, and the room smelled of old paper, disciplined air currents, and the chilling weight of unaddressed power.
