Ivy's POV
The second wolf circled before me, searching for an opening while I maintained my position. Determination coursed through my veins—I would not fail these pups. Gathering my remaining strength, I projected my voice clearly despite my weakening state. "Listen, you two," I waited until their frightened breathing steadied. "Do you...think you can...do me a favor?"
"Alpha Ivy?" The little boy's uncertain voice called out. "Is that you?"
"Yeah buddy, this is my wolf. Can you do me a favor?" My legs threatened to buckle beneath me, but I locked my knees, focusing entirely on their escape. "Yes Alpha."
"Good boy. Can you be strong for me? Can you take your sister and run?" I kept my gaze fixed on the predator before me, knowing a single moment of distraction would prove fatal.
"Will you come with us?" His innocent question pierced my heart.
"Of course. I'm just going to make sure you get to safety before I follow with your parents." The lie tasted bitter but necessary.
