Chapter 1 - Chapter one

Mabel's secretary announced the arrival of the representative of Global investment representatives the moment she entered her office. "Ma'am, the representative of Global investment are here for…" But before she could complete her statement, Mabel stopped her with a wave of her hand. "Cancel all appointments for today and next time just put a call through than barging into my office," Mabel said rudely, trying to conceal her tears as her eyes stayed fixed on her phone screen.

The secretary muttered, "I'm so sorry ma'am." She had never seen her boss act this way. "Ma'am, it's the CEO of Global investment son and two other men," the secretary announced, knowing how much time and resources they'd invested in trying to get Global investment contracts.

Mabel's voice was cold. "Lodge them in a hotel or do whatever you want with them please!" she stated, her eyes never leaving the screen of her phone. Then the secretary's eyes fell on the untouched coffee she'd brought for Mabel earlier that morning. That was unlike her boss, who couldn't miss her morning coffee for anything.

The secretary wondered what was so important that had kept her workaholic boss glued to her phone and led her to cancel on their most anticipated partner that they'd tried to get for months. "Ma'am, should I call the boss to attend to the client since you're…" the secretary began.

However before she could even complete her word's Mabel's voice cut her off. "I've told you what to do," Mabel said, her eyes still on her phone screen. "If he answers you, no problem." She added, "Shut the door beside you and let no one in. I won't be attending to anyone today," she announced, fighting back her tears with her eyes still fixed on her phone.

At that moment the secretary nodded slowly and left without saying another word, closing the door behind her. Mabel didn't move, her gaze were still locked on the phone screen showing the CCTV footage of Fred with his mistress making out inside their bedroom. The pain and betrayal swirled in her mind threatening to break through the dam of emotions she was trying to hold back.

Mabel's grip on her phone tightened even more. She couldn't think of dealing with clients now, not when her world felt like it was crashing down around her. The thought of Fred's betrayal consumed her. "How could he do this?" she whispered again with almost tearful eyes.

The silence of the office wrapped around her, broken only by the sound of her own ragged breathing as she fought to keep her composure, she couldn't believe her greatest fear had turned into a reality. Mabel didn't know how she'd face anyone today, least of all Fred she couldn't believe that fool sweat talked her this morning.

"Babe, you know how much I love you. Have a blissful day at work today while I attend to important matters down town," those were the exact words of Fred sealed with a kiss on her lips this morning as Mabel got ready to leave the house. Who would have suspected that her lovey dovey husband would be making his mistress moan few hours after she left on their matrimonial bed? It's how Fred never fails to tell anyone who cared to listen of how much he loved her.

Mabel chuckled bitterly at her thoughts, the sound catching in her throat. "Oh Fred! You'll regret hurting me this much! you can't treat me, and betrayed me this badly after everything I have done for you" She cried out this time, unable to hold back her tears. She had thought having two miscarriages in their five years marriage was the worse pain she could ever bear but nah, she was wrong seeing the man she thought she had known for years in a live CCTV camera disrespecting their marital vow was worst than any other pain.

At that moment she angrily threw her phone on the desk, the fact that this was happening right now in her house made her skin crawl, she held her mouth and tried not to shout out in agony. "Fred, you'll regret this!" She repeated, burying her head in her hands.

At that moment the notification beep of her laptop got her attention as it popped up on the screen. she wasn't ready for any official stuff, even though the email was from the company's email address. She was about to turn off the laptop screen because of the brightness when the heading of the email caught her attention. "Immediate resignation of Mabel Martins Rodriguez as a board member," she scoffed as she hoped she just read that wrongly.

The company was built by both her and Fred from scratch so no board member could remove her she was the next in command. She quickly opened the email and yes! It was a resignation letter from the boss, boldly signed by CEO Fred Rodriguez. Mabel's eyes widened in shock as she read the words on the screen.

"Is this some kind of joke of what," she whispered, her voice trembling with rage. "How dare he? How dare he try to do this to me? something we built together, now he wants to kick me out, that isn't possible, I won't allow that, for him to kick me out I will kick him out instead."
