Chapter 113 - Chapter 113: Picking Up Thor's Hammer

Seeing Loki appear out of nowhere, Thor's face lit up with excitement. He moved to embrace him—but Loki's expression held only sorrow. Thor's hands froze midair.

"What happened, brother?" Thor asked, confused.

At the question, Loki's eyes reddened. He let out a heavy sigh. "Father… he's gone!"

Thor stared, shaken. "Impossible! How could Father just die like that?"

Loki quickly told him the fabricated news of Odin's death—and that it was caused by Thor's disobedience, that Odin had been angered to death. Thor was forbidden to return to Asgard. Loki himself was now the new king of Asgard.

Hearing this, Thor stood there, mind blank, at a total loss. Loki shook his head, then vanished on the spot. Thor's legs gave out and he sank to the ground.

A voice drifted over, soft and inviting. "What's wrong, Thor? Bad news? Come—have a few drinks with me." Thor looked up. It was the blonde from the restaurant. Heart heavy with grief, he needed someone—anyone—to talk to, and went off with her.

Not far away, in a car, Jane Foster watched Thor leave and snorted, furious. "Heartless jerk. I'm done with you." She drove off.

By then, Maguire and his group had reached the crater. They stared, astonished, at the Thunder God's hammer—Mjolnir. Garfield frowned. "So this is the hammer nobody can lift? Doesn't look that special."

Before he finished, Garfield grabbed the handle and heaved until his face turned red. Mjölnir didn't budge. Holland hurried over. "No way, you can't lift it?" Garfield let go, panting, and looked at him. "You're stronger than me—your turn." Holland tried with everything he had. Not a millimeter. Harry wanted a go, too—with the same result.

The three of them turned expectantly to Maguire. General Ross and Hawkeye also watched, curious. They knew Maguire's identity as the Hellblood Demon, and when it came to his power, there was only one verdict—beyond imagination. Both men thought the same thing: He can probably lift it.

Gwen, Jones, and Hannah chimed in, smiling. "Maguire, you try. Maybe you really can pick it up."

Maguire eyed the hammer, thinking, This isn't about raw strength. Either your power is at Odin's level… or your heart is pure and righteous. As for the first—he was strong, SS-minus class by his own measure, but not at the All-Father's tier. The second… best not to comment.

He reached for the handle. The moment his fingers touched it, a jolt ran through him—some kind of connection. He realized he could lift it. But he didn't feel the power of Thor flowing into him. Understanding clicked: because of his Devil Fruit–like ability, Mjölnir "recognized" him as a type of thunder itself. The hammer would allow him to move it, but treated him as an element, not a worthy bearer—so it would not grant him Thor's power.

That being the case, it wasn't that interesting. He'd hoped to see whether he could gain the thunder's might. Since he couldn't, he'd leave some face for Garfield and the others. He released the handle and said, "I can't lift it either."

Ross and Hawkeye both exhaled in relief.

Jones, Hannah, and Gwen grew eager. "Can we try?"

Maguire and Garfield nodded. "Sure—go for it."

Jones, the impulsive sort, ran up first and gripped the handle with both hands. No movement at all. Hannah tried—same result.

Last was Gwen. Seeing everyone else fail, she smiled. "I'll pass. If you all couldn't—"

"Try it," Maguire said gently. "We're here already."

Gwen set her small hand on the handle—and her face suddenly changed.

Maguire's heart jumped. No way. Gwen… is she about to lift it?

The sky darkened. Thick clouds rolled and writhed overhead. Lightning flickered across their bellies.

A heartbeat later, everyone stared, stunned—Gwen had raised Mjölnir off the ground. Thunder crashed from the sky, spearing into the hammer in her hand. A blaze of white lit the world.

When the light faded, Gwen stood before them clad in the Thunder God's armor.

Everyone around the crater gaped. "What—what is happening? What is that thing? How did Gwen become like this? This is unbelievable… and so strong!"

Maguire was just as shocked. No way… she really did it. Gwen's heart is truly pure. The thought left him more than satisfied. After all, she was his girlfriend.

Didn't expect this trip to net me a goddess of thunder for a girlfriend. Jackpot.
